I got some extra legroom out of the MX-3 seatrails.

So I'm almost 6'3" and I was getting tired of feeling cramped behind the wheel even after getting a 13" steering wheel. So I relocated my MX-3 driver's seat farther back on the seatrail, it ended up being easier than I thought since there are 2 holes evenly spaced apart on each side of the seat bottom. All it required was notching out some of the hole with a circular file so that the bolt would line up with the original hole. I also ended up having to drill a hole in each rail but it was no biggie.

These are the holes already there, you can see where I notched each one:

And where I had to drill the rail:

    Rails back on:

I used the original bolts but with a nut on all holes but this since the seat frame dips down, I'll end up replacing the washers with a small piece of steel stock:

I had to cut off the tab with the wire connecting to it that makes both seat rails open simultaneously so they slide together so moving the seat back and forth is somewhat of a pain but it can be done:

You have to pull the handle and pull this tab on the other rail at the same time to move the seat but I never have to slide it foward to I don't care at all:

It's been something I've been wanting to work on for awhile and glad I finally did because it made a world of difference in how comfortable the car is to drive. It's easier to manipulate the pedals, easier to turn the steering wheel, I feel a lot more planted in the seat. If anyone's got any questions or wants better/more pictures of things let me know. I'm going to take it apart to redo a couple things soon and I can get some different shots of what I did to it.

Nice fix. BTW, the cable on my driver's seat is messed up so I can't move it without pulling the tab either... I wonder if this is a common problem?

sounds like a good idea for us tall folks, but are you having any issues with your seatbelt now?

Still, it seems to me that the shoulder belt wouldn't be where it needs to if you do this. I mean, for me it's already too loose if I move the stock seat all the way back... Were the MX-3 seats closer to the front than the stock pro seats before you did this?

It's in an EGT so that might be why the seatbelt feels fine. When I had these seats in my wagon the shoulder belt never quite felt right.

I'm 6'2", but I have a long torso, so my hair touches the sunroof on my 1990, but not on the 1993 because of the glass sunroof and retractable sunshade....
