It was great to see it again in person this past week, and help out a little bit. There is already talk between us of the next crazy project, seems like we should finish our current ones first.

Thanks again Jon for the help---it'll be much easier to "start" building the bodywork having something to visualize. The next project...I've got to finish mine first like you said---it would be real easy for me to get excited about that one and let this one sit for another year...damn racecar ADHD!!! Midengine though....can't wait!

Thanks-I've been busy at the shop building a Ford/lotus Cortina rallycar from across the pond---I did pick up a 5x12' piece of aluminum to start building the bodywork/underbody---should start cutting it up this week.

OT: We put a v6 cosworth to this Taunus (650rwhp and 950nm):

When do you think you will finish this Escort?

Sorry I missed your post---that's a very cool swap! I'm going to finish it this year---but things keep changing. I'm looking seriously at the Global Rallycross series here---which means changing the body work/suspension---not a big deal, but a different direction for sure. We're going to continue on the body/arch's etc, but I think I'm ordering/grafting in some wide universal flares with a full fender, lift the bumper up (or get rid of it/something else/oem) for the rally stuff. A girl has been interning here for a while and starting making dead pedals/pedal covers for some of the racecars---she built this with graphics to match the exterior---sticks out like a sore thumb, but should look at home when everything is done/painted...

I was just watching Global Rallycross on ESPN3, that looks like an absolute riot. Would you stay in the 2WD class?

I would---it would be a ton of wasted engineering to try an convert this to the AWD class---and then the major cost would be the gearbox. Stephan got a "loner" sequential box from Crawford that he runs in his sube---even if I ponied up for a dogbox or switched to Cosworth 2.0 stuff it would be $30k to build something that was competitive in the slower of the two AWD classes---I might consider one of the Tx3 laser's though for that class---I think it's limited to a smaller restrictor so the HP is affordable and then your not allowed the sequential so it might be doable---still have to fly the big jump and both Keeny and Burke will tell you with the extra weight and less HP you've got to be right on...The premier class is now unfortunately unreachable without a solid six figure budget---and it happened so fast, almost before the series even started!!! Hopefully it has some staying power---I love rally---absolutely my favorite thing to drive---but I build like ten roadrace cars to everyone rallycar---today I'm building a Bonneville Salt flats car (the cage design is very similar to a rallycar) which is a first for me---the rally stuff is slow going...

perhaps I'm missing something, but wouldn't it be fairly cost-effective and reliable to convert to AWD using a modified tubular rear subframe and GT4 stuff?

The way they've got the rallycross rules is that you can race any car in any class---if you "create" an AWD car then it's in open class and the GT4 box won't live with the 500+ HP and then it's not sequential which is a huge disadvantage. The "rallycar" AWD class has to start with an AWD car and run a non sequential box and a restrictor in the turbo inlet which limit's HP---this would allow the trans to have a shot a living. If I turned the 2wd into the awd then it would throw it into "unlimited" and without a sequential and 500+HP, $8k dollar dampners, adjustable diffs, electronic center diff cut for the turning brake, crazy engine managment etc...etc...we'd just get schooled---so much of the race is all about the start/getting a good launch with launch control---Stephan/Tanner/Marcus/the Skoda's were all breaking axles at each event as it is.

I'd love to do AWD and it fits my driving skillset well, but it would take a serious effort/car for me to be competitive--in 2WD we should be competitive right out of the box (after development)---we've won multiple 2WD championships and I've actually got a couple of Overall wins in my 2WD truck beating the AWD's at the Prescott Forest Rally and some rallysprints. It's also a whole lot cheaper/fun for the dollar---plus I get to use the escort against the Porsche's/RX-8's/Honda's etc...
