Mazda_Powered's 91 Protege LX

    so I went on a mini trip to visit some friends. Only got some pics from the car show me and Chris (damkid) went to lol

    Car managed to get a whopping 32.8mpg on the trip too, which is about 7.1L/100km for us Canadian folk lol. Cruised at 75mph (120kmh) the way there too lol, which was at a disturbing 3,650rpm lol...definitely need a taller 5th gear! yep!

            did you at least get any respect? and dude I cruise on the highway at about 90mph @ 4300ish all day when I go on trips.

              emilio, its out of a mercury sable, one of the early to mid 90's ones. could also probably be found in many other fine ford automobiles, especially the throwaway ones.
              loves BGs too much for his own good...

              93 pro lx. daily runaround until a straight shell can be had.

                dear lord!!! what is your mpg at that rpm?? haha, I don't think I could let my car rev that long that high lol, 3,700 almost broken my heart, but kept pushing because I'm not an old lady driver LOL

                      Well got a package in the mail today wasn't my springs tho haha

                      External wastegate I got from a guy on mx6.com for a steal. It's yet another Generic piece, but I'm spending a bit of time with it and inspecting things closely to see if I can use it or not...comes with a crap load of hardware, gaskets, flanges, and an 8psi spring in it.

                      It's either going in the 626's turbo setup, or my "I really want a compound turbo setup" build LOL.

                          OK. So I've been thinking about this for a while, just don't know if I should dig in once I pull the car off the road for the season...



                          Compound turbo setup anyone?

                          My idea is to sell my downpipe, buy a vj20 5 bolt flange, then re-make the downpipe so it goes up and over the exhaust manifold (j pipe style) to a diesel turbo which would be mounted over the transmission.

                          I would run the vj20 internal gate at 10psi, then I would run an external gate for the larger turbo (on the j pipe closest to the diesel turbo) and have that at 20psi, or w/e will get me up to 300whp lol.

                          The large turbo inlet would have the VAF (just to get it running, MS would be a must) and the outlet would feed the vj20 and out through the FMIC.

                          I'd weld another port to the oil pan for the diesel turbos return, and use a sandwich adapter @ the oil filter to supply oil....afaik most diesel turbos aren't watercooled...but I can figure that out when the time comes.

                          I've got a set of 460cc injectors that "should" allow me to take it for a test drive or two to verify the system works. Then she'll be converted over to MS, especially if the stock GTX ECU and w/e VAF won't control fuel lol.

                          I'd also be converting my fuel rail to dual feed by adding a barb to the other end of the rail (seems simple enuff)

                          The reason? Why not? AFAIK no one else has attempted it with a BG chassis. Even if they have, doesn't bother me. Just something different to try

                            I gotta be honest, i'm not entirely sold on compound turbo setup's i mean that pic looks sexy as hell and it will definately be cool to see you do it, and maybe i could help out, but i can't help but think your power goals could be reached with a single turbo

                              Ya, 1 turbo could get me 300whp for sure, but I just think it would be a neat idea to try. Plus I love the low end TQ of the vj20 lol.

                              I'd only be able to get about 300whp or so from the compound setup if I use the vj20 tho, because I'm 99% sure the diesel turbo will out flow the vj20 coldside and become a huuuuge bottle neck restriction at higher boost levels.

                                If I get back to London and that Merkur still has it's 60 trim t3 with the 48 exhaust a/r, I might just run that...but I don't want to run anything larger (hotside) so it doesn't lag like an asshole.
