Actually, you are mating Eric's plate-modded center case to your bellhousing so the stock shims would most likely not match up anyways.

So the purpose of this exercise is to measure the in/out end play of the gear set, to take up any slack there may be between the bearing and the case when its bolted on, correct?
I suppose I should buy new bearings when I do this..just because.
Part numbers for the bearings??? can they be bought anywhere using cross reference or are they dealer only?

Got the Mfactory diff installed on the ring gear, speedo gear and new bearing installed. I have to assemble the shifter rod mechanism and then it will be time to order those tools to get the proper shims in place.

Got the shifter stuff together. Since the 2 transmissions used different pieces for the shifter gate and me taking a long time to get this thing put back together I forgot how it went and had to dig around for some pictures. Turns out the pieces for the MZR transmission are exactly the same as the ZX2 transmission I found the picture of.

Finally got around to ripping the body harness, fuel pump, gas pedal, ignition key antenna, and OBD2 port out of the Mazda3 today so I can send it for scrap. Its basically a body lift for the rear case and a spacer on top of the shaft your testing, the case is bolted down with the spacers in between, you pry up on the shaft and read the play on the dial indicator and select the appropriate shim(s). Max is 2 shims per shaft. Thats an extremely summerized version but I will take pictures as I go.92 Mazda MX3 GS> For sale, $1750 OBO

Initial impressions of the BP are: more power then the 1.9 (obviously) but it does not feel that much better, plus the idle is still loping, and sometimes it does act like its got more power and then the next time I mash on it its not really that exciting. Just from the difference in the transmission gearing it should feel a little better, but I was expecting more from better trans gearing and about 40 more HP. Something is obviously not right with this thing.
I did manage to keep notes on all the wiring changes, cooling fan will work on hi and lo speed as soon as I get the temp trigger from an automatic car and a radiator for an automatic, all functions of the A/C will work just like OE and it was not really that complicated once I figured it all out. As a bonus, the 1.9L used a WOT cutout relay for the A/C, which can easily be used for the BP, just have to figure out the proper way to trigger it
I came across this thread through google as I was trying to find a solution to the a/c not kicking off at WOT, could you elaborate if you got the A/C wot cutout working? Hell the only thing I can think of that recognizes wot in the bg is the throttle body, is that input used in the configuration?Beater=/= Sleeper
