Checked compression and each cylinder is ~150-160.
I tried starting it with the distributor set where I think it's supposed to go... I pulled my bypass valve off and a small puff of white smoke came out. So something is screwed up with the timing.... But what?
If you had to put the timing marks opposite of what they are supposed to be to get the engine to start then there is a problem. You could try pulling the valve cover off and verify that the cams are where they need to be.
Also just a thought, when you have this no start condition, try some starting fluid to see if it starts. Could help you verify if it's a spark or fuel problem.

Firing order is right? Do not even look at that stuff setting the cam sprockets backwards, that is fookin nuts. The motor is designed to run the way it was built not backwards.

I assume the firing order is correct considering it'll run
