    Hot starting problems...

    Howdy all....New guy here...93 Protege 1.8L DOHC...I've got a small problem when my car is at operating temperature. If I shut it down, and then try to restart after about 15 minutes, it will NOT restart , just crank and crank and crank. I know for a fact that it DOES have spark, I'm guessing a fuel related illness and just wondering if anyone has anything to check. If I wait for a little while, or keep cranking, it will EVENTUALLY restart. If it cools completely, it will restart without any problems...

    Thanks for any suggestions...
    By the way, I just did a TC Lockup mod with a switch in the cab, works slick..

    when was the last time you changed the fuel filter?
    The T3 BP MX-3 conversion has begun, and is taking forever & will kill me.

      Thanks for the reply....I'll get a FF and R&R tonight to see if it helps...
      Seems like it only happens on restarts though....I was thinking that a FF problem would only show on times of higher fuel consumption...
      Car has 117K on it and the FF looks like factory to me....We'll see what happens...

        yeah that's the best bet.

          Lol I see this thread is from 2005 but this is the same problem I am having... Any thing fix it?

            besides fuel filter? Likely a watertemp sensor, the one that the ECU uses.

              Well that could be a problem but before this problem started, i never had any stock temp sensors and I never had an issue with starting while the car is at NOT

                Well I can't really get into it farther without knowing more about the setup. hotstart is typically bad sender or isc valve. But there are other causes depending on whatalls been done... did the prob crop up after you did something underhood by any chance?

                  heres the story.
                  basic bpt setup with f2t injectors. i had this setup in a 1995 escort lx and never once had a starting issue. i got rid of the shell because it was rusted and i purchased a clean 1994 mercury tracer. the tracer ran and drove great with the 1.9 in it but i was planning on putting in my bpt. while i was doing the swap i cut the harness up here and there to tuck it. it looked good but this is where the starting issue began. first start up it would just crank and no start. finally got it started by jumping FP and Ground in diagnostics box. from that point on the car would start every time it was cold but would just crank and not start once the engine is warm (sometimes it would start when warm). you can pop start the vehicle when it doesnt want to start. ive since then replaced the ignition switch, disty, starter, fuel pump relay, fuel filter, new engine harness with no cut sensors and all the factory ground positions. and i still have this starting issue. i do not know where else to start looking for problems. i have heard that the FPR could be bad and i plan on replacing that tomorrow.

                  when the car doesnt start, i do have spark. i do not know how to check for fuel pressure but with it pop starting there has to be some fuel pressure.

                        has a new filter, ill double check it jsut to see. and for fuel pump i plan on upgrading to a walbro 255 anyway
