Whats up people? After not having very much time to race I finally has some spare time to got to the dragstrip.This time I was going to better my previous best of 9.70 in the 1/8 mile.I knew I was going to go quicker because I put on some 205-50 bf goodrich drag radials. Having cut a 2.19 best 60 footer before ........I knew I should be some where in the 2.00 60 foot range with these tires and hopefully run some 9.50's........Well any way I pull through the water box and proceed to do a lite burn out.......All is well.........I pre stage bring the revs up and stage the car when the lights come down I release the clutch and............Pop......I'm like WTF.The car did not move...the track officials had to help me push the car down tear drop lane and get it off the track.Turns out that I shelled off the left axle at the cv joint. Fast forward 2 weeks I order some 200 hp axles from ZX tuner.When I received them they were nice and beefy.That worried me alittle to because I hated to add weight to the drive train of the car but any way I installed them and proceeded to make a dyno appointment to verify any gains or losses.
Fast forward 1 week.......I get to the dyno and we made our first pull....The car was down 20 hp.............I'm like WTF.We analyze the dyno sheet and the car pinged the whole run plus it was pig rich and top of that the temp inside of the shop was 103. Definitely not a good day to dyno..So we pressed on backing down the fuel pressure and timing.......... hp came up considerably.After all the tuning we got our best numbers which was 6 hp and 5 ftlbs of tq less than my previous best......These are the numbers......139.7 hp and 120.1 tq.
My suspicions were confirmed the heavier axles,The wider tires and the heat took some of my precious hp I have worked so hard to gain.
While at the dyno I was once again plagued with those damn lifters tapping loud as hell and with the hood up its amplified thats so embarrasing, damn I hate that but any way..
Dissapointed with the dyno numbers I quickly go and order a nitrous kit. Determined to break the 200 hp barrier with my escort.........Then I thought about it.I think I'm retiring the escort to daily driver and not beat on it too much.The reason I'm doing this is because........................ I went out and bought a 2005 Neon SRT4.This car will be my next project for awhile. Its got great potential and its already a lethal weapon stock.......I will check the forum out regularly to stay updated with other projects some members have got going on now.........
I still got a crap load of parts to get rid of cheap.......2 sets of cams ,cam sprockets,extra head and intake.I will be posting in the FS forum..............
