would this make me run lean???

hey guys, after installing my port and polished intake manifold/TB i've noticed that aorund 6k or so its not as responsive, and my spark plugs are showing signs of running lean or to much timing (they're have a grey coating to the tip now, they never really use to). also, to add more air, i have a 3"CAI with a generic highflow filter, thats basically all i have done for the intake system.

and if you do think im leaning out, and not getting enough gas, should i invest in an adjustable fuel pressure regulator? would this fix my problem?

here are my mods to further help.

    P&P mani/tb
    3"CAI
    pacesetter 4-2-1 header
    2.5 magnaflow exhaust
    MSD blaster 2
taylor made 8mm wires n crappy ngks
    and timing advacement

now, the car didnt feel AS lean with the timing advancement before, the plugs were a hair grey, but now its about 50% worse

    thanks

    JACK

have you been on the dyno since your mods?

Sounds like you are running lean... more air same fuel = you leaning out.

Good dyno session, and you'd probably pick up the lost power and then some on top.

there arent any dynos around my area to go to plus my car is going off the road tomorrow due to winter! ah! but D323, if i am leaning out, i would need an adj. pressure regulator ??

i'm almost thinking about a v6 swap now...grr...my friend bought a mx-3 gs for a parts car, but all he needed from it was the motor/tranny/axles. so i can use all the wiring, p/s pump, stuff off his old motor, crossmembers, mounts, all the goodies

your stock FPR should be fine.. you might have a pump that is not pumping enough or a clogged filter or something. I'd check the fuel filter and small stuff before putting money into an FPR.

Although if you plan on turbo or other serious mods, I dont see why an FPR would hurt.

have you seen what your o2 is reading at that point... with either a a/f guage or just back probing your o2 w/ a volt meter...
ok so this is what i have done to my car.... i have a mitsu te04h turbo miata header customized for a turbo... volvo intercooler, dsm bov, acufab adj. fuel pressure reg, stock injectors and maf, colder spark plugs narrowed gap, stock cat and 2.5" exhuast..... umm thats all that i can think of for now... pics coming soon

well wouldnt that just tell me im running lean though? im trying to source the problem of why its running lean, i can almost feel/smell the difference. because it use to have a fain smell of exhaust once i reved it up to the redline and shifted, but now...no smell.

anyways, i dont have time for the fuel filter today, i dont even know if i'll bother with it now, my friend donated some misc parts from his mx-3 parts car. so im thinking V6 swap over the winter

it is just a suggestion cause unless you have some data to support your theory then your just guessing if it is better or worse... and about the loss of power at the top-end... maybe you improved your midrange power but not your topend and that is why you noticed the difference in power......

but whatever the deal is i hope that you get it figured out.. let us know when you do!!
