    the search for a motor....

    so, i bought a 1992 dx with a manual tranny, and i am looking to swap it for a bp. i went to the j/y today, and all the proteges there were single cams, and i found 1 EGT right before i was going to leave.

    the motor looks good, the car is in pretty good condition, leading me to believe that it actually has 78k miles on it, as opposed to 178k miles (5 digit odo).

    one problem though, its an automatic. I read in the faq that its smart to get a motor from a manual car to swap into a manual car, but this motor is cheap, looks to be good (still gotta pop the valve cover off btw).

    so i was wondering if anyone could tell me what i would need to actually do to get it to work...and if it's too hard, can I at least grab the vics wiring off of it though.

    you'll be fine with an automatic engine man. just swap TPS (4 prong auto 3 prong man). then obviously with the BP swap you'll need the fuel injector harness (cut it before the big plug so you can wire it all in and what not) as for the ECU....im not to sure if there would be a difference? but yea, you'll need to run a wire or so to the ECU either way.

    and if you plan on using your F series tranny (sohc tranny) dont beat on it, they cant hold a lot of power. after swapping a BP in, first thing you'll wanna look for is a good G series tranny (dohc) which are found in EGTs, LTSs, Sephias, pro LX/GT. then a clutch, and axles...then you should be good to go

        might be a G-series in a wagon (I've heard that rumor, but never checked into it), but it will NOT bolt up to the BP, since the wagons all got the 1.9L CVH powerplant. The endcap covering Reverse/5th on my original 1.9L wagon

        When I swapped from an automatic to a manual in my '92 Escort GT, I had to change the whole TB, not just the TPS, because the shaft that the TPS connected to was slightly different between the manual and auto TBs.

          just found out that my friend has his old mani/tb from his old egt manual leftover that he will give me. so no problem there.

          looks like i have a 135 dollar motor to go pull tomorrow. today i checked under the valve cover, nice and golden, some slight brownage.

          so with the injector harness, i just get that off of a manual with a bp right?
