Opinion on amount of transmission fluid

Today I changed the transmission fluid. When filling the transmission with the new fluid it would not come up to the top of the speedo gear with the recommended 2.83qts or 90.56ozs. I ended up putting in 94ozs and it finally came to the top of the gear. On top of that I know that not every drop of the old fluid came out.

It's a royal PITA to read the gear as you have to push it all the way in and we all know how hard it is to pull the damn gear back out.

So should I drain a couple ounces back out or leave it be? Yes, I am being an anal retentive bastard today.

Nice and flat, but the front was jacked up. I did think of that and jacked up the rear in several postions to see how that would change the reading and no real change that I could tell.

I was wondering what section to post this to when I made it. I know it has to do with the drivetrain, but I also thought it was a routine fluid change so general maintenance. Thanks for moving it to the correct section.

EDITED FOR CLARITY after finding service manuals here. (http://www.fordlaser.com/dload.php?a...gory&cat_id=10)

For FWD, the manual says to remove the speedo gear and fill until the fluid level is flush with the top of the gear.

                For AWD TRANSMISSION:
The center diff and gearbox share a chamber. The transfer carrier is seperated.
The procedures for each are pictured below.

the awd trannies are different. ive never worked on a BF, but on the BG tranny you fill into the fill holes until fluid leaks out... then its full. the gearbox and rear transfer are seperate from each other, there is an internal seal.
