Why would you want to? They're both 1.8L.

Take a engine and trans from the MX-6 and stuff it in the Protege. You get more power and larger displacement ( 2.5 MX-6 vs. 1.8 MX-3 ). And they respond to turbos very well.

Im assuming your refering to the KL-ZE, and not the DE, correct? Id love to see a KL-ZE in a 94 Protege, with a write up/how to of course. =P

But the ZE has high compression, wouldnt that be unsafe to run turbo on?

Tuning is even more critical/less room for error.

I find it hard to believe theres enough room in the engine bay of a 94 Pro to fit that big 2.5l 200hp monster of a motor. Would there even be room at all to try and fit a turbo + - FMIC? Man, Im starting to drool a little at the thought of a KL-ZE Protege..

What do you guys think would be faster 1/4 mile? Stock BP-T or Stock KL-ZE?

Also does anyone know the weight difference on these two beasts?

Sorry for the thread jacking. =[ lol

They fit in the MX-3 so I would assume they would fit just as well in the pro.

                  It's been done.

I hate V6's for the very reason that they don't leave much room under the hood.

aye, the klze and variants fit just fine. it's been done even on the 1.9 escort, there's no difference in what you need so the escort/protege regardless of what's under the hood will smile at it.

1.8 v6 from the mx is a waste IMO. higher compression is just fine for turbos, you just have to adjust and properly tune as stated. lower compression leaves room to f up.

id bet the klze stuffed bg is faster out of the box but only by a little. but consider that no one in their right mind will pop a stock klze or stock bp-t into their car, 95% of the time they have mods going in with it.

I was refering to the DE. They are more plentiful here in the states for a much cheaper price and they respond to boost better then the ZE not to mention they are basically the same engine just slightly different tweaks.

for the cost of swapping a DE into a protege (not to mention the additional weight) a gtx swap would easily outrun a de swapped protege in cost and the platform, power wise, is pretty much the same. plus respond to boost is not even a question with the gtx obviously.

i dont see how a de would respond better to boost over a ze considering as you said, they are the same motor minus some restrictions in air flow really. What's the compression difference? i think they are almost if no identical.
