    Which ECU should I use?

I am nearing completion on my Bp and wanted to know which ECU or standalone or piggyback I should use. Right now I have the ECU/wireharness from a 91 protege but as shown bellow i just picked up the Coil pack and wireharness from a miata and i'm going to run a cam angle sensor instead of a disti

    Cylinderhead:
    Mild Port and polish
    port match
    stainless steel 1mm oversized valves
    3-angle valvejob
    ARP Head studs
pacesetter header (not sure if i'm going to use or not)

    Electrical:
    1997 Miata Cam Angler Sensor
    1997 Miata Coil Packs
    1997 Miata Wireharness
    Making my own Groundkit

    Block:
    overbored
    wiseco 10.0 - 10.5:1 forged pistons
    B6T rods
    crankshaft micropolished
rods / crankshaft / pistons / pulley balanced

    Drivetrain:
    Fidanza alluminum flywheel
    stage 2 clutch
    GTR trans and rear end
(going to have an alluminum driveshaft made)

with all of this should I just buy the Miata ECU? the Miata ECU with a piggy back? or just buy a standalone? I'm shooting for 150-170 hp right now... and in a couple of years adding another 100-200 when i do a small turbo

Whats your budget? Could always go the MUCH cheaper megasquirt route!

don't have a budget... i just save till i can afford whatever it is i should buy... and of course watch for things on ebay if they happen to be cheaper than the same thing from someone else.... is the megasquirt good enough to work with what i have and what i will have in the future?

Yes the megasquirt is essentially a full standalone for alot less $$$ then the most but obviously its not as easy to tune as most tuners usually use other EM units but its still doable!

Research the MS a bit. It can be used piggyback or standalone, off stock or GM sensors. it works with the Miata CAS and can be setup for knock/ignition-retard.

Haltech, Microtech, Wolf, AEM, SDS, etc would be the"low" end for standalones. Motec and Autronic would be on the high end.

you forgot Link ECU's they even control the A/C properly ^_^

I think most ECU's will be able to idle the engine at a higher rpm with the AC on. It just takes up one of the sensor inputs. There's a limited number of inputs and outputs, and it'll vary with different models.

some high end ecu's will have "auto-tune" via a WBO2.

FM sells Link and Hyrda? There's dozens of other companies, most seen to be out of Oz or NZ or Europe.
If you want to buy amurican there's FAST and Accel, both high end. Electromotive probably isn't as good?

the ones i had already run across was the link ecu which FM raved about... you had mentioned the 034motorsports one and that one seemed interestign to me also, i had already heard of megasquirt just really didn't know how i felt about it... a/c won't be an issue cause i have no intentions of installing it on the car, too much work for something i really don't need plus it will rob gas and hp. i have heard of some of the others i guess i'll just start looking through them... i really want one i can use without the stock ecu, and will be programable/tuneable, especially since they cost so much, i want to be able to get at least a reliable 150hp before turbo and no less than a reliable 250 hp after turbo (hopefully higher)

hate too say it but isnt your compression a lil high for a motor you plan to go turbo on?

depends on what size turbo he's using. also, although he had a built engine at the time, 545gt was using 11.2:1 comp ratio on his turbo car. it all depends on what you want and how you apply it

it is only too high if i don't properly manage my engine.... plus i'll be runing a smaller quick spool turbo since this car is being built for autox.... a large turbo although giving me more hp would take so long to spool up i'd rarely get to use it. If i only do 6-12 psi and use decent tuning and engine management the turbo won't be a problem... the reason most people do low compression is cause it gives them a huge amount of leeway on the tunning plus they can run big turbos for drag racing

don't some of them allow you to completely get rid of your MAF / VAF? cause I would love to never have to install one of those on the engine.. i haven't found one yet that advertises you can do that but i thought i saw that in the past
