    Rear wheel drive

I'm thinking of converting my Pro to rear wheel drive. I know, there are a lot of problems in doing so, but a problem without a solution is called a fact. I was thinking about an 80's Camaro chassis (it's got a resembling wheelbase and a 5 litre V8 with lots of compatible tuning parts). Has anybody ever tried doing this? If so, do you have any tips?

well since your workingwith unibody cars you cant just move stuff around like that.... could you convert to rear wheel drive with a v8 tho? yes you could but an immense amount of work is involved. if it were me i would probable get a miata rear subframe suspension and diff and go from there.... but trust me lots of work. new floorboard braceing the chassis so you dont twist the frame into a french crueller ect...

Talking seriously, I have been doing some junk yard research on this very topic. The space between the frame rails is almost the exact same between a crown vic and a pro. So if you're serious than this is what you'll need to do: construct a cross member and bolted to the uni bodyroughly where the factory mounts are. This is a strong point in the frame. remove every bit of interior including dash. cut a hole in the fire wall and floor pan to build out for the tranny and driveline. I would locate a rear subfram from a GTX to make the job easy. have a driveline shop make a custom driveline to go from the mustang tranny to pro rear end. Than to beef up the frame, easy, build a bad ass roll cage. This has been running through my head for about 3 months, as well as a TT KLZE, longitude BP, TT13b, and the list goes on. My poor wife!

EDIT: BTW welcome to the forum!
Too bad I have AWD and you don't!

Certainly an interesting topic. I'd be interested to see an outcome. Good luck, and keep us posted if you do decide to go this route.

Just buy a Miata or a 240SX. Youll spend 10k plus to convert an fwd car to rwd.

probably, if you are having a shop order all the parts, do the work, etc. Price is relative to the amount of work you do both on the labor side and parts sourcing. Just like turbo setups. Generally though, I don't see RWD as a cost-benefit modification for street/mild track cars anyway. If someone is happy running 13/12s, leave it fwd, toss a gtx at it with some mods, good suspension, and tires.
