gen1 tranny in a gen2

Hi i have a 1993 mazda protege with a 1.8L engine and a 3 speed auto tranny. And I have a friend that has a 1996 protege with a 2.0L engine and is in need of a tranny, I was wondering if there is any way possible that the tranny in my car would fit in my friends car. We dont care how much work is involved to do the swap we just want to know if it will work.

Yea, that's not going to work. You'd need a 2.0L tranny from the same generation protege.
