    1.6 SOCH turbo, possible ?

Hey guys! I have 93 323 and at first I was thinking of doing a BPT swap but seeing how much hastle it will be I am reconsidering. Although my car is in California, it is 1.6 SOHC and right now I am thinking of giving it some BOOST. Do you beleive it is reasonable to get 135-160 WHP out of turbo SOCH with bolt-ons without compromising reliability ? And is it viable to do so ?

    Regards,Mike.

better idea, find a B6T from a mercury capri of the same year and get a reciept for the purchase with the year on it.

this is not only a better route than the SOHC turbo, but offers the HP you want, reliability AND its the only legal swap you can do.

DO IT! well i mean, if the honda single cams hold up bad ass, i dont see why its not worth a shot. Anyway as far as reliability, i wouldnt know what to tell you on it, but it would definitely be different. Theres a guy with an mx-3 that did it and he made damn good power. Good luck boostin that 88hp to the crank motor, haha. Peace

you may want to invest in a thicker head gasket for this one.

i suppose you could do it if you wanted to... the bottom end is the same so you could even put GTR rods in it. it would "hold up" just as well as a DOHC, but probably make less horsepower with the same amount of boost.

basically, i guess i'd say to go for it if you want to be unique. however if you want to make more power for a few bucks more just start off with the DOHC head, or better yet the 1.8 BP

it should be easy to get at least 130 whp from a turbo sohc without upgrading the internals.. maybe even 140-150 after that i'd worry about rods and such.... but i think the turbo kit is somewhere over a grand and you should spend less than a grand swapping a b6t engine in there it has around 130 hp stock and you could just up the boost a little and do a few other small mods to get up to 150 whp pretty easily i'd guess

just checked and the turbo from racing mazda is $2000 not sure how much hp it will get you but i think for about 1000 - 1500 you could do the b6t swap which should be plug and play and get more hp than the soch turbo

he shouldnt have to worry about rods until he is well over 200 horsepower... sorry i just tend to think of things in an extreme build sense haha. the b6 sohc has the same rods as the BP as far as i know.

i agree a b6t dohc swap would be the best bet, or better YET slapping a turbo on a NA dohc b6 from an MX3

Just found out that the B6 DOHC head will swap over to the SOHC block, but you have to use the DOCH headgasket to unblock certain passages in the block.

So there's your ticket! I'm sure the wiring harness is identical, MIGHT have to swap out a fuel injector harness, but doubtful.

So there you go, DOHC head swap, miata/323gtx/capri manifold, some type of turbo...Vj-11...Vj-14, all the proper fueling, cooling, and piping, then you should be set for at least 140whp @ stock psi with bolt ons.

                      JACK.

Hmm, interesting, because someone on Mx-3.com did the swap over.
