    Intake Manifold???

I would like to know if I can install a second generation protege intake manifold on a first gen. protege engine? (BP engine)

Yes you can. Just swap the top part over, it's been dyno tested to give more power.

Hey Jon, Naprotejay tested a full hybrid out AFAIK. Full 1st gen, 1st top, 2nd bottom...1st bottom, 2nd top...full 2nd....ect.

Its just the top part sits an inch taller. BUT you never know man, could have been no issues in the 2nd gens cast marks...because i know the manifold i've been working on is horrible!

Do I have to do any modifications to be able to use the second gen. intake manifold?

yes its a direct bolt-on, but requires modifications to make everything work.

To use the 2nd gen DC on a 1st gen BP, you need to:

                1) Fit the 1st gen TB to the 2nd gen DC. The TB bolt hole locations are different, and a 2nd gen TB will not work with the 1st gen ECU.

So you need to figure out a way to mount the 1st gen TB to the 2nd gen DC. There are several ways you could go about doing this.

Depending on how you do it, you'll also have to remove some material / fill some areas on the TB and DC. Also, since the air valve is deleted, the coolant lines to and from the 1st gen TB need to be routed correctly.

                2) Plug the EGR hole on the bottom of the 2nd gen DC.

                3) Extend/route the PCV hose to the port next to the TB on the back of the 2nd gen DC - OR add a port to the front of the 2nd gen DC, same as 1st gen DC.

That IIRC is the main issues in using/installing the 2nd gen DC.

its a few whp 2 i believe? unmodified.... if you modify the 2nd gen one you can see up to 5whp considering; a 1st gen cut manifold shows 3whp gains. ( you just have to know where & how to modify it)

its a first gen intake manifold thats cut in some way that's highly classified, it gives some HP gain, no clue where or how.

^ its not specific to only 1st gen manifolds, it can be modified similar on a 2nd gen manifold as well.

it provides more flow for VICS operation/smooths out the powerband/ & increases the powerband/TQ band. its HP gains are minimal compared to what it does for the drivability of a BP
