get rid of mass air flow sensor

Is there anyway to get rid of the mass air flow sensor and convert to a map sensor or something, seems like it would increase flow if i could get that hunk of metal out of my intake stream,

P.S I think its called the mass air flow sensor, correct me if im wrong.

    thanks

its called a VAF or VAM (depending who you ask) and it stands for vane airflow meter. the only way to get rid of it is to convert your car to run on a full standalone ECU (microtech, haltech, megasquirt, ect.) that replaces your stock ECU. corksport used to carry a piggyback called the "map ecu" that would do exactly what you asked about... but i dont see it on their site anymore.

i did it on an old corolla one time. . . waste of time. you cant enlarge the port where the trap door swings or else air will bypass it. i just cleaned up the inlet throat and rounded it. . . thats 2 hours and 3 dremels bits i'll never get back.
