rattling noise on acceleration???

    rattling noise on acceleration???

    while cruising, it's not there. during start up, it isn't there. in idle....nope, still not there.
    only when accelerating do i hear a rattling noise coming from under the hood. it's not a constant rattling either.
    wasn't sure if it could be a valve tapping noise, but since our engines have Hydraulic Lift Adjusters, it costs a buttload to replace them (1200 bucks)
    i know there's a how to posted about cleaning them....i just wanted to know if this was a common symptom of dirty HLA's.

    does it sound like a deasel engine when you accelerate. is that the sound you are trying to describe

      I also have a strange sound coming from my car as well as yours (RonBurgundy). Is it random during accl and for a sec during start up? I've been looking to find where the noise is coming from. I've been told that the flywheel can also do that if it's loose. Now if it's the other kind of rattling noise I know, check your ing timing, spark plugs, oil and of course don't run your car on 87 octane. Take a look let us know what up. I'll get back to MARACAS as well and fix it.

          that would be bad combustion. Look at everything that has to with sparks and or fuel. You Know Ing, fuel filter, spark plugs, wires, cap, rotor, fuel pump, ect..

            Yeah, it sounds like it might be detonation. Check your wires, plugs, distributer. Have the timing checked as well.

              yea i was thinking it might be a timing issue some where with this problem. like if the timing belt is whering allowing it to go out a very little bit that the valves are not in time of the detonation. the distribitor cap being bad or not set right or has slipped a bit has the same affect as the wearing timing belt.

              my car isnt doing this yet but before it does i want to replace the belt and the waterpump wile the timing belt is off. now does the DX's SOHC have a belt tentioner like the BP does. cause if mine has one i will also replace that.

                i've already replaced the spark plugs, wires, dist cap & rotor, and fuel filter and pump.
                i'm gonna have to go get a timing gun so i can check that too. maybe the distributor's off a bit or something.
                it's similar to the grinding noise i had in my previous car, which turned out to be a bad distributor. Difference is, that the bad disty was noisy @ idle and pretty much all throughout driving. could it be early symptoms of a bad disty?

                i'll just add that to things to check on when i get the chance.
