    quick apr head stud question

I'm going to use the arp head studs. I had a couple questions.

1: ithe ones I need are for the 94-97 miata correct?
2: when I put then into the block how do I tighten then into the block before I put the head on? Or do I just twist them in till they stop turning then after the head gets put on the tighten up by themselves?
3: If I have to tighten them down before I put the head on how do I do that?

    Thanks

yes those are the correct ones

and i agree, follow the instructions. if i had to guess, i'd bet that you lock two nuts against each other and use that to torque the studs into the block. but thats just a guess.

One end of the stud is broached for an allen wrech. So, no need to use the double nut method.

you finger tighten them with lube on the bottom threads, and then you lube the top threads, nuts and washers and tighten it down to arp specs. I think i tightened mine to 70ft lbs.

well, there are the old version studs where you didn't have the top part that you could put a allen wrench in. in that case, you just put lube on them, and hand tighten them into the block till you can turn them anymore. if they come with the allen head option to screw them in, do it that way, and tighten till you can turn it anymore with the wrench. then when you put your head on, tighten it to ARP specs. i think with head studs you only have to tighten it once, but lets say if you get ARP rod bolts put in, you are suppose to torque them 3 times. but it should say in there instructions. just follow what they say, they know what they are doing.

Did you get some used studs?... or new?... cause if they're new you should follow the instructions step by step.

If you got used studs let me know and I'll scan my ARP instructions for you.

The ARP's on Flyin' Miata say they work on all years. I did some research and these are cheaper and are the same (as near as I can figure):

What is the torque on the ARP's for using Oil as the lube?

Just Don't say just follow the ARP instructions...cause I don't have them anymore and they aren't on ARP's site (moly lube only there)
