    Advancing Timing?

For those that have done it here are my questions:

What gains if any did you see or feel?

Does it affect your gas mileage(not that I care, I live 3 minutes from work)?

Which direction do you turn the housing to advance the timing?

What should I check for when advancing the timing ie, idle and throttle response?

Do I need to change the type of fuel I use?

I ask these question to hopefully verify what I have read as I have seen many answers to these questions and all of them were different. I'm looking to make a little more power out of my engine and I read that this can be one way to add a little bit more power to your ride.

    Thanks in advance,
    Matt.

92 octane premium, jump the ground/10, turning the distributer counter-clockwise is advancing, then remove the jump, not sure though. You should use a timing light/gun, if the mark on the pulley moves right its advancing, if it moves left its retarding.

mmm that's fancy adjusting. myself I just turned it till it was at I think 15* and I didn't jump gnd/10. ran fine, tsame fuel, here no longer were surges in the rpms, it became smoother power all the way up. never was sure why at 3300, 4700, and 5700 it surges with more power. really weird. I lost about 2mpg on average driving around town, but that might have been my new driving style. I still averaged 28 with 60% highway driving. recently I've had it at 7* and got 25mpg all in town. I'll have to see what the new BP will get.

      to recap
      1. smoother power, but might have been just me.
      2. got slightly less, again might have been my driving style with the butt dyno.
      3. no idea, can't remember. I had a timing light, makes it very simple
      4. I advanced until the idle became crazy, and backed off a few. that was at 15*
      5. I didn't change the type of fuel, stuck with 88. Tried 92 once, didn't seem to make a difference.

edit, sorry for the messups, its my bedtime....

No car! I soldz it. Now I have a truck. I like it, but apparently it has a hard time keeping up with a slightly modified 4WD protege with half the hp. Neat.

you advanced it to far, you can use premimun fuel and see if it goes away. if not then you have to retard it a bit

So will it run better if the timing get advanced, is there any marks at 10 degrees. that is original i think?.

Is there any other ways so (fine tune) the engine like air/fuel mix?

Mines at 18* running on 91 octane. Runs so much smoother and much more power (friend Josh dynoed an 8whp gain).

                  JACK.

PS. Boost and timing do not mix.

                    i ran 18° NA & 16° @ 10psi for awhile, Im back down to 14° now tho.

if your NA its not requied to run premium, I always ran 89 (mid-grade) without problems
