Head gasket

For a high boost engine, should I use a MLS (multi layer steel) gasket or a copper gasket?
Also, are MLS gaskets reusable? I have an MLS gasket that came with the block and it looks in great condition, just a bit dirty. Can I reuse it? The block and head will get resurfaced anyways before reassembly.

how high you want to go...because i know a lot of guy with bp at 15-20 psi on the stock head gasket with no trouble

Use a MLS Gasket, and replace it each time you get the head off.

Resurface the block and head too.

i will be going a bit over 20 psi. I guess I'll grab a new stock MLS gasket.

it will be fine just torque it right and get some head studs don't use the factory bolts

i didnt even replace the headgasket on my motor when i got it. its very happy at 18psi/275whp... and its a stock MLS type.

Only use copper if you're gonna o-ring the engine... if you're worried about it blowing, then you should get some ARP studs and throw those in.

Oringing is cutting a groove around cylinders to seal them using an oring. Here's a picture:



This is not really needed on our cars, you will be fine with a stock HG from Mazda + ARP head studs.

didn't know you could do that. I won't be doing that so I will just use an MLS HG and the stock head bolts, for now. Do you know of any companies selling ARP head studs to Canada? I contacted Import performance and the guy told me I will have to pay 30$ extra for somebody to go to USPS office and ship them to me that way cause I don't deal with UPS... screw them for that... and headbolts don't ship to Canada. If anyone has a set, I'll take it, lol

Ummm, check your local performance parts shop. If they don't know what you're talking about, they're not a performance parts shop.
