    Shifter Problems

Hey guys I have a question. When you are replacing your shifter with an aftermarket, does the rubber that the shifter slides in to, is it connected to the extension rod or do they come apart? Cause since I have replaced my shifter, it comes out of that boot or rubber

the boot under the car? or the one inside that car? Either way they aren't connected, its just in there

      If it's what i think you're saying..

The stabilizer rod bolts to the stud on the side of the transmission, and to the floor of the car, and has a rubber bushing in it, that surrounds the metal area that the shifter gets installed into. That should NOT be just coming apart, but it does happen fairly often. It can sort of prevent you from having any leverage at all with your shift lever, and stops you from being able to shift gears....

I've never had one fail myself, so haven't had to fix one, but there's a bunch of posts about them here and there...
