I know its sounds bad....i know even some ford probe engines will with the protege too but the reason why i asked was because a mech i was talking to about the swop said that he the its to big to fit in my car so i just wanted to be 100% sure before i go ahead with the swop ...the SOHC has to go....

If he's saying that, I'd have someone else do the swap. The DOHC is the same size as the SOHC.

This is my plan....When the protege had tran problems i was think'n of get'n rid of it because well$1995 is a lot for a trans to me ....then it had the over heating problem so...another $210 for a new radiator(to replace the one the mechs broke when installing the trans but blamed it on me but..i should have taken pic's before i brought it to them)so now everything is comes up to $2205...it's still over heating and i noticed that it's not as bad as before ...but yesterday i noticed the reason why it's still over heating other then the water pump going bad is because the fan on the radiator stoped working period....so im going to get another one and install it before i go to work . I figured it would be smarter to just buy the whole car(1994 escort gt) since i found one for $500 only 70k on the engine that has no problems so i can always keep it as a parts car . I want to finish up with my car and with a gt engine DOHC would make it a lot faster. Im going to mount fan under the hood scoop for better air intake and change the vent (get rid of the mesh and add a flap that opens and close). Im going to see how everything goes friday...because i have have to pick up the car and a truck that same day....one is in N.J and the other is in long island so thats a bit of back and forth but i think it's worth it.

I think your right..problem is out here is finding the right person the will do the job right and not rip you off.....im going to ask a few of my mech friends at delta and see i can get this going because this is something that i cant do myself with all the running around i have to do during the day( i have an hour between flights.... sometimes...most times 15 mins....kind of hard to do that in their parking lot)

You're going to replace the whole motor just cause of a bad water pump? If I were you I'd do more research before getting fkd by another mechanic and just do the seap yourself. And right now how this economy is I'd stick with the sohc at least till this economy gets better. The sohc gets great mpg. Plus there are some differences in the egt and pro motors like difference in sensors and ****. Just my $0.02

Today i drove the escort and wow can that thing move.....the tran has about a year left on it so..when i do the engine swop im going to sell it for like $200. That car was a sleeper........did not expect it to hit 90 so fast and so easy.....
