    transmission oil change

hay i'm new, i would like to ask how to pull the speedometer gear out so i can add fluid. i have the cable out and the 10mm out but it will not move. is there a clip or somthing i didn't do? or whats the deal here?

Try twisting and pulling it by the base that the 10mm bolt goes in. Its just hard to pull out sometimes.

Some oil could help, there shouldnt be anything else holding it if you took the cable off and pulled the bolt.

these things can get REALLY stuck especially if they use salt to treat the roads in the winter in your area. they do here... and i once came across a speedo sender that i could NOT get out, no matter what i did. luckily for you the protege ones are more durable than the escort ones... and therefore easier to remove lol. try and get it to spin, thats your best bet.

when you put it back in, lube that thing up really well with grease, anti seize, or even just gear oil.

you can use a spare axle nut to try to get it off. did it on my friends pro, worked great. luckily for me the one on my egt came out easy as cake.

just fill the trans from the oil level hole. Its easier but takes longer.

i thought the gear hole was the oil level hole.

the gear oil level hole is the bolt in front of the trans thats there for the purpose of checking the fluid level. You're not suposed to fill it from there. But its a hell of alot easier. Just use a hose jamed in it and put the gear oil in that way.

                            No problem.
Make sure your cars on a completly flat surface and check the fluid level a few days after you fill it up just to be sure.
