BPT factory Main bearing support plate ?

I pulled my oil pan off tonite and I was surprised to see a Main bearing support plate on my BPT engine.

I thought only the GTR had this...

It's like this one. I don't see any difference.

Am I trippin'? Is this only a windage tray? And if so, whats the big stink about a MBSP? They look the exact same to me.

Mine says BP01 on it. You can see it in the pics. I'd remove it but I don't have the special socket.

I was thinking I'd remove the support plate before I reseal the oil pan so I can seal them both at the same time to make sure to eliminate leaks. I'm on a mission to replace every seal in the car, I just have a couple left on the rear differential.

I'm not confusing a MBSP with a stud girdle if thats what you mean.

Here's another write up on it

Maybe it was just miata's that came without it?

Are these normally on N/A BP motors in the Protege?

Post from here, jeez nevermind this post guys... I'm more or less talking to myself at this point....

I'm totally hip to whats going on.

The hype I was hearing about the MBSP was the 5 rib ones with the #3 main cap switched out to tie all 5 together.

Theres just some disinformation out there when I googled this.

They come on all BP's except the ones that came in the Escorts. I'm not 100% sure about the Miatas though. Even the SOHC B8 came with the MBSP.

even my GTR motor did not have bolts on the center bearing cap.
