Awesome product for saving your engine/turbo.

Was just reading up on oil viscosity again and I came across this. Talk about a smart product. It basically solves the problem of engine start-up wear totally!!

What the additive manufacturers tell you is true - when you start your engine, there really is very little oil in the right place - most of it is in the sump. There is another alternative. I found a site called AutoEngineLube.com and they seem to be offering an interesting alternative. They have a system which uses a cylinder of pressurised oil and a solenoid valve, all connected to the regular oil system. It works with only one moving part, (the solenoid valve - duh!). When the key is turned on it opens the valve and the oil that was trapped in the tank the previous time it was running goes back into the oil gallery in 1 or 2 seconds and the low oil pressure light will flash off. There's likely to still be a little lag before full-on lubrication gets to the main bearings, but from what I can tell, this system will massively reduce that lag compared to starting from cold - it pressurises the system before the starter engages. Of course an engine that has set up for a few months and is completely dry will take a few more seconds. When the engine is turned off the solenoid valve shuts off in 30 milliseconds so you end up with pressure on the tank equal to the pressure the last time it was running. The tank will hold more than enough oil to accomplish this. Its completely over engineered as the tank is rated for over a thousand pounds and the hose is good for 300lb. Because the valve is designed for an industrial application with an expected duty life of several million cycles, AutoEngineLube give it a lifetime warranty. It only uses previously filtered oil from the gallery so no damage can be done by it in any way.
Their system comes as a kit and requires some menial installation - most savvy home mechanics should be able to do it. I'm not sure how it would affect the warranty on a car engine. In theory, if it works, it ought to make no difference but you know what manufacturers are like - if you even sneeze on your engine, it's likely to void the warranty.
Pop over and check them out if you're interested. If you end up buying one of these, I'd like to know what sort of results you get so I can add an objective review to my site. www.AutoEngineLube.com can be found here. Another site sells a similar product, but electrical - www.PreLuber.com can be found here.

isn't this like a dry sump?

The thing with even a dry sump is that you need the motor turning to run the oil pump (mechanical dry sump system).
With an electrical dry sump...then yes...you could set it up to function like this.

But this can work on any engine and just T's into the oil pressure side. It fills with pressurized oil when your running the car (look up Hydraulic Accumulator on google)....then stores an amount of that in the bottle. The moment you turn the key it floods pressurized oil all through the block, crank bearings, oil squirters and the head before you even crank the starter.

It's just the thought of having no more lifter tick at start up makes me happy. I cringe every time I hear that.

Or the thought of the turbo spinning on mostly dry bearings.

It is. There are a couple of different names/brands this type of thing goes under.

its a cool Idea, the only thing I dislike about it is how much extra equipment there is... To me I think I would rather just get some additive that would help to leave a coating on everything... I didnt really read anything on it but would it really have enough pressure to pump up ALL of the lifters to prevent ticking?

I do have to question how much additional stored oil is pumped back into the engine, could the extra oil somehow harm things.... or possibly back up flow into the turbo? an additional 2 quarts would probably raise the oil level a good deal in the pan.

used to use one of these on my 4wd truck for hill climbs

my concern is that these are made for larger displacement engines, and 2 quarts seems like it would be enough to fill the pan past the windage track and "may" interfere with the rotational mass.

It pumps everything up to the operating pressure (whatever that may be)....so it has to be enough to pump up the lifters!

The thing I like is that the extra oil is only in the motor during the crank period.

The moment the oil pressure gets back up to operating pressure...it all goes back into the bottle. So while the car is operating and parked, you have the correct amount in the motor. I haven't found a bad things about this thing yet.

They also make different sized bottles now for different sized engines. So obviously we would use the smallest one. lol

Accusump is very highly thought of in the roadrace community, I wouldn't mess with imitations. I've been meaning to install em on both cars but haven't gotten round to it.

On a stock car, where would the "best" place to attach this to be? I am thinking somewhere between the pump and filter but it wouldn't be too easy unless they offer some sort of filter adapter.
