    Fuel Injection

    Hey folks,

I race with a 1600 SOHC 16v Mazda 323. Its close to stock standard apart from some head work and so on. I initially thought it was a carburetted model but apparently, I was wrong. Apparently its running a fuel injected carburettor. Yes a fuel injected carburettor of some sorts. It looks just like a carburettor but it uses fuel injection. So my question for you folks is: Is there a huge difference between fuel injection and electronic fuel injection AND if I would like to do a 1500 DOHC transplant in the future will it be easy to crossover from this type of injection to the multiport/multi-injector system?

Here's a pic of the so-called "fuel ijected carburettor":

    Thanks.

Here is what you are referring to...

Fuel injection can be mechanical, like early Corvettes used. Modern F.I. is not only electronic, but also 'multi-port'.

As far as converting to MPI, I would just use whatever came with your motor, or comes with your new motor, unless cost isn't an issue.

Interesting thank you. Can I get a larger replacement? If not, how can I improve its performance?

wow, another kiwi hiding here .. i don't know anyone up north here that does chips for these ones, you're prob better off/almost cheaper just getting a standard 1600/1800 injected from pick-a-part or grad a cheap wreck from trademe - at least that way you can get the full loom and everything if its a runner..
