    Hard to shift

Had a recent off road excursion with my ball and chain and ever since then it's been really hard to shift. Mainly it's been hard to shift into 1st gear but sometimes 2nd as well. I can hear a clunk by my feet when trying to shift into 1st when at a light and then after a couple of tries can get it to go in. Any solutions to this? I'm really affraid of the worst!!

agree, you need to crawl underneath and check the linkage rod and the stabilizer rod to make sure it's not bent. if you continue to drive it like that, it will ruin your syncros.

I've decided that my car is a girl, she's picky as hell, won't listen to me, always wants to fight me, and when i give her presents it's never good enough and she always wants more.

I've crawled underneath and nothing looks wrong with the linkage rod or stabilizer rod. I'm stuck workingon my mom's house without my haynes manual and cannot for the life of me find the dip stick for the tranny. I also checked the mounts and they all look fine. Is there a possibility that this might be a bent shift fork?

There is no dip stick in a manual trans.

remove the speedometer cable, and check the oil.

technically there is. you unscrew the speed cable from the gear, and remove the gear. there should be oil on the gear, if there isn't you need to add til there is oil covering the gear when you insert it.

haha. yeah find the fill plug and it should be barely over flowin or
enough to get your pnky a little oily when you stick it in. if it looks fine you might just need to take and tranny out and check the syncros

I don't think I described it the best before when I said hard to shift. It's really weird because sometimes it's hard to shift first through third and other times it'll only be first or only second. I've noticed that if I keep it in third when I'm coming to a stop, that when I've completely stopped I can easily throw it into first. Of course this will wear out my bearings quicker if I have to coast to every stop with the clutch disengaged. Finally got back to my place so I'm going to check the trans oil and hopefully thats all it is. Think it'd be worth my while to flush it?
