I'm in the same boat as you, I tried removing mine two days ago to install my oil pressure gauge and ended up stripping it >.< It looked to be in the 23-24-25mm range. I had a 22mm but it was just a bit too small, had to use a small cresent instead.

its probably 1 1/8th. there are always those weird non-metric things that come up...

I think we used a 1 1/8" on the BP in the 4WD when Craig and I worked on it.

Why go mechanical? then you've got hot oil in your cabin that can spray around if something breaks. Just get one with an electric sender. I think we found it at O'reiley/Checker, made by VDO.

Yup, it's a 24mm. I double checked on one of my extras in the garage.

I stripped mine with an open ended wrench (cresent to be exact) so go with a closed end or a really deep socket (to leave room for the end of the wire).

Ok well I went and got a 24mm socket for draining my transmission fluid outta my miata. and I compared it to a new sensor and it wouldnt fit. So the guy at pepboys showed me that they have a special tool for removing the sensors. We will see what works.

Try having big hands, and getting in there with the engine still in the car. I could BARELY fit my hand in there, ended up using some twisted body position, and had the oil filter off anyway. lol!
