Making my list, checking it more than twice

So I'm trying to work out things so by the time I have my Protege LX back in Canada i'll be close to having saved enough $$ for the first stage of the engine rebuild (parts that dont require machine work asap). Tell me what you think I may have missed...just OEM rebuild, no Turbo stuff yet assides pre-tapping the oil pan

    - Engine kit w/ gaskets, bearings and 84mm pistons (oem c/r) ACL race bearings
    - Timing belt & water pump (SS water pump seals)
    - ARP head & main stud kit
    - Clutch kit & lighten/machine flywheel
    - OEM Axle seals
    - Mazda oil pan sealant
    - Axle seals
    - Assembly lube
    - Engine oil, transmission oil, coolant
    - Oil fitting for oil pan
    - Coolant hosing
    - Fuel filter
    - Injector o-ring kit
    - Filled engine mounts
    - Left axle (was diagnosed bad and disposed of)
    - Inspect oil pump clearances

Engine kit will obviously be the last thing I order until I've been able to measure the crank and conrod oil clearance obviously. Then off to be machined and balanced.

Sound good? IDK if I've missed anything.

nope, staying with stock rods. they'll be weighed and balanced though.

Only going for 225-230whp for this one. I want a turbo setup that'll be very streetable considering i can never really go over 100k (60mph) unless travelling lol. So something like this won't require 300+whp

So why are you rebuilding? So much time and work for 230 whp? Instead of dropping money in a block, you should invest in some good management to avoid braking the BP. 230 whp is nothing for a stock BP, It can handle it all day long, even with a VJ20 at higher boost. The key is engine management.

Drop in a resealed GTX in there, raise the boost, add some management (the correct ecu, the correct vaf, a wideband (or even a megasquirt)) and be done with it.

pretty sure there is a complete bpt floating around locally for about 1k .... should be less than the full (albeit stock) rebuild

323driver: the car i purchased came with a torn down BP, I do not have a complete BP engine, nore can i find one in my city with low mileage.

noob: ya i know there's a used BPT, but idk if i want to run a used engine. I plan on keeping this Protege LX for quiet some time, and a rebuilt engine just sounds like solid reliability.

I've found that Hondabond works way better than the OEM Mazda crankcase sealant, and its about $11 cheaper.
I live my life a quarter pounder at a time. And for those 500 calories or more, I'm free. I need FRIES! Two of them. The big ones. Oh, and I need them tonight. You're lucky the double shot of BBQ sauce didn't blow the seam on your nugget box. There she is, 2 pounds of pure beef. My dad ate it in 9.0 seconds flat. Check it out, it's like this. If I lose, winner takes my happy meal. But if I win, I take the burger and the toy. To some people, that's more important.

                  Cool thanks Rice.

This BPT might sound like a better option since it comes with a clutch kit already....hmm dammit lol.

Well, if you want, I have a BPT bottom end in great condition, just need to redo the gaskets and the water pump as it's noisy (didn't leak though). And I have the VJ20 turbo setup that was on that motor, check my FS thread, I'm not asking much for the block. The guy who bought the head was amazed how clean it was.
