    Custom header on BP

ok so i have done my research and checked the forums...and can NOT find anything on anybodies headers they have made! I just need a few specs and advice.

first is first.... just gonna be a header for a N/A BP. Slight engine mods i.e. ex-intake cam swap, adj cam gears, high compression pistons -10:1 and a possible P&P.

Looked up the bad assssss header that SMSP built for naprotejay and wow!!! very nice. couldnt get any info off that one tho but its what im shoootin for.

These headers are gonna be made out of Stainless Steel that my school has laying around. Goin to school for Mechanical Design Drafting and Engineering so i got the CAD skills, have some machine skills and now im gonna learn to TIG weld. Figure why the hell not eh?! haha. but there are a box of bends anywhere from 1 to 3 inch diameters. and I can get tubing as welll and Stainless flat stock.

but i am goin to be basing my headers off of Antonio mx3_4_evr 's pacesetter header. BUT!!! im curious to figure out what other people have had as far as tube diameters.

    I want to know a good flange thickness - 1/8" ???

and as far as collection....4-2-1?? or 4-1??

tube lengths.... i want to know the pros and cons of a shortie header vs. a long(er) tube header. what would you all recommend??

any info you guys could provide would be amazing! i planned on building one just by basing it off the stock manifold... yeah read SMSP write up and scrapped that idea for fear of scavaging, improper bends and air-flow.

will be made entirely of stainless...recommend a coating on it to??? BBQ paint or ceramic coating??? or just leave 'er?? wrap it???

wouldnt mind hp and tq gains/ loses of the different combos if you guys have them.

thanks again guys!!! any info is very much appreciated!!

From what I understand, a 4-2-1 is good for midrange power, and a 4-1 is good for top end power.

I've always wondered what equal length runners would look like, I bet it would sound sexy!

I am going to Build/Modify a 4-2-1 header by welding a BP flange on a 1st get Escort GT HO header, then make whatever adjustments necessary to get it to bolt on. Maybe you should look into this header to get your measurements. The GT HO was a 1.9L so it should flow just fine for a BP.

I'd recommend 1/2" for the flange and you don't need to coat/wrap stainless as it already keeps the heat in.

can't hurt to wrap it if heat is your concern, if looks are then thats another story.

I hate heat wrap unless the pipe is ceramic coated to protect the metal from moisture as the heat wrap traps water.

                          LINK http://www.wihandyman.com/forum/show...t=4-2-1+header

antonio...hers SMSP 4-2-1 header. cant really see it well but it does ok.

but i was gonna ask ya earlier....on that sequential pairing.... link cylinder 1+3 and 4+2. read bout that somewhere and it supposed to be better??? that would only be if we went with the 4-2-1 design.

anyone else hear bout that design??? or am i not taking it the right way??
help and advice would be greatly appreciated! thanks

I would just go with the 4-1 design as it helps the top end power.

The Ford CVH has a different firing order than the BP does so your exhaust pulses won't be matched up.
