does the B6 have a rev limiter?

I just swapped out the stock instrument cluster in my 93 923 for one out of a protege LX so i could get a tach and convert to miles. (my car is canadian) anyway, on the way to work I thought I would rev it up to the redline which I assumed to be 6k since that's what was on the cluster I got out of a base protege. after the tach went past 6 i let off since I didn't want to grenade the little bastard. SO, is there a rev limiter on the B6 SOHC, and if so, does changing the cluster to the BP model affect that some way?

also I searched for this, but couldn't find any information.

changing the cluster doesn't effect it simply because you're just swapping out the read-out and not changing the physical properties of your motor. there is a rev limiter, i would imagine it being around 7K...i believe the 1.8 DOHC motor(BP) redlines around 7200...i never take it up past 5500-6000 myself b/c i like my motor

I know the BP in my 99 miata redlined at 7200, but the BP in my MSM redlines at 6500. So the sohc b6 still taps out at 7200?

The SOHC B6 in my festiva goes really high before it hits rpm cut. That motor will wind right out and pull pretty strong in a festiva :-)

            Good source of information....

            1.6L SOHC 24V (B6-ME) redline: 6000rpm.
            1.6L DOHC 24V (B6-ZE) redline: 7200rpm.

            1.8L SOHC 24V (B8-ME) redline: 6000rpm.
            1.8L DOHC 24V (B8-ZE) redline: US/Canada/Eu/Aus: 7000rpm.
            : Japan: 7200rpm.

If you've got it at WOT, it will hit the cut hard. If you ease off, you can feather it a little past there. there's usually a little play in these things, so it's not uncommon for them to rev up higher than you'd think. Just make sure you've got clean oil, and enough of it....

I'm pretty sure I've ran my BP passed 7200... maybe 7500, and then I thought it would be a good idea to shift, lol!

You don't ever need to be up past 6500 with a SOHC .

i never took my b6 past 6000. it fell flat on its face after 5500 so there was no point.

fuel cut at 6600 rpm. guess my 7k gauge cluster was a little optimism on my part. oh well, at least it's ready for the BP swap.

the stock tachs are notoriously inaccurate anyway

my 323 will not rev past 6500. period. the end. just wont do it. so i imagine thes where the cut is for our B6. looking in an MX3, their tach says that its good to like 7 grand, so i dunno where the difference is.
