    Emissions test fail

well .. it was emissions time and well ... it sucks ass

    curb idle test ( not shown above ) HC ppm limit was 200 ... i had 226 ... 171 @ 2889 rpm ( 40kmph) when pass is 72 co% limit is 0.40 i had 0.97

car is a bp swapped SE ( dx) complete swap with bp ecu and vaf bone stock swap with the exception of an ebay filter and gasket match on the intake and exhaust car idles smooth @ 730-750 when warm . iac functions when cold .. a tiny bit of oil burning on startup with some weak valve stem seals , no visible blowby on accell . anyone have any ideas?

i need to get this done in the next 2 days so input... any input would be helpfull

Elevated hydrocarbon (HC) emissions usually indicate ignition misfire due to fouled spark plugs or a bad plug. But high HC emissions can also be caused by burned exhaust valves (check compression), lean misfire (check for vacuum leaks, low fuel pressure or dirty injectors), or rich fuel conditions (fuel saturated carburetor floats, excessive fuel pressure, leaky injectors or a dead O2 sensor).
High carbon monoxide (CO) emissions are a telltale sign of a rich fuel mixture. On older carbureted vehicles, fuel-saturated plastic floats, incorrect float settings, leaky power valves and misadjusted chokes are often responsible for the rich mixture. On newer vehicles with feedback fuel controls and fuel injection, leaky injectors, excessive fuel pressure and sluggish or contaminated O2 sensors are all possibilities to investigate.

all the info seems somewhat contradictory ... whats the best way to test for leaky injectors while in the car ?

now with your tail pipe sniffer, would ethanol throw it off to much if you ran it? i know of people who have got thier car to E and put in enough drygas to run the car for a little while, it obviously lowered thier readings as its a different burning mixture. but will your tester say hey its not gas and fail? i mean im guessing the byproduct of gas after it burns is different than drygas's byproduct...

for your other quetion ,if you can get a gauge on the fuel line, pinch off the return and pressure when its running, see if it drops, or pull them and turn the key on and press in the the afm door... just make sure they are all sealed, might wanna ziptie them to the rail so they dont just shoot out tho....

i can run the methyl hydrate to pass the test i think ... but am worried about the results showing me an issue ... weak spark or leaky injectors ... or bad 02 sensor

just a thought ... now that i think of it .. i do have a 4 wire 02 thats not hooked up to power ... doh .. but the black lead ( signal ) is hooked up and i dont get an 02 cel so i iaasumed it was working properly just not heated ? am i way off? can anyone offer info on that ?

Pull the sparkplugs and look for obvious fouling problems, you might just have a bad plugwire and can get by with that and a new set of plugs.

about emissions ? nope ... 1st time it's ever been an issue.

may have been trying to help someone else at the time ...

problem is this is a fresh swap with a semi-unknown motor so as usual there are so many possible issues to troubleshoot ... + it would help if it werent so bloody cold out

yea, i've never had the engine emission tested

i know the injectors are 100% sealed when i had it last, idk if you've had the rail off or not lol.

whats the car running for plug gap? and is it still the 4 wire o2 sensor on it? if so, that sensor has only idle mileage on it afaik.

any idea on the cat converter? age? mileage? brand? size?

Oh crap, you better send that to church to repent it's sins.

Easy test to check your catalytic converter is to check the temperature before and after the cat... if you have access to a laser thermometer, that's the easiest way of checking.

BTW, it should be hotter coming out than going in.
