    BPT hiccups at 3-5K RPM

    Hi Peeps.

I am encountering a weird problem on my BPT.
It runs smooth at 1-3K rpm.
But surge/hiccups starting at 3K rpm onwards.

I replaced the following to isolate:
    -ignition coil
    -HTW
    -spark plugs
    -stock fuel pump to walbro
    -fuel regulator
    -fuel filter

    I also cleaned:
    -distributor

    What else should I check?
I can here a continuous "tik-tik-tik" sound on one of the injectors.
I can actually feel it when I hold the socket.

    Any recommendations?

    You didn't replace plugwires?
'90 AWD Protege, full GTR drivetrain swap, ~320 whp daily driver, RIP, and
'90 AWD Protege, yet another GTR swap, Open class rallycar with a Toyota GT4 gearbox swap, thus crossing the line between hobby and mental illness. And a Brabus E55 K8, removing all doubt.

may be having issues with that injector...but I'd start looking at the ignition setup first to be honest. Did you do a resistance test on your ignition and coil wires? That'd be my first thing to check when it's breaking up in the higher RPMs...also what spark plugs are you running? What gap?

I agree, sounds like wires. Be sure to get NGK, in my experience our cars don't really like anything else. You'll start having the same problem again a few days after you replace them if you don't use NGK.

Also magnecore wires run well.... If you replace the wires and still get the same problem, its the AFM most likely...

Maybe he did replace the wires. He said replaced "HTW" by which I think he means High Tension Wires.

injectors tick . thats what they do , open and closed . now if you feel or hear a difference between them that points to a problem . Before you spend any more money . undo the HTW from the distributer and hold it near a ground . turn the car over and watch the spark . should be strong and blue . do the same ( reconnect the wire ) with each spark plug lead . if you see a weak yellow spark change the lead . if you see any cracks in the insulation , change the leads . check the gaps on the plugs

Spark plug brand and temperature range make a difference as well. I always run NGK BKR7E plugs gapped at .030".

                    thanks for the replies guys..

I did replaced the wire leads (High tension wires).
I borrowed NGK wires from my mazda mechanic.
I checked sparks and yes it was blue.
                    I am using NGK bkr7e-11 (1.1mm gap)

Weird thing is, this is running good before. I just replaced my clutch and problem started.
Injector tick sound is only audible on the third injector. And tick sound can be felt from the wire socket itself.
Other injectors are normal in terms of sound.

try closing the gap on your plugs a bit, I personally (some say different Ryan) run a gap around .032" (around 0.8mm)

                            Done this today..
                            Still same results.
Engine seems to suddenly stop giving power at 3K RPM then recovers then stop again then recovers.....

What do I need to check?
Could this be turbo stuffs issue?
