Car isn't moving when it's cold out =/

My 91 DX will not move in the morning when it's been 40 degrees or colder all night. It just revs up and won't move byt once the trans is warmed up it works much better but still acts up a little. The fluid and filter have been changed. And it doesn't jerk forward when it finally decides to go, it'll either slooooowly take off or it'll take off normally. Thoughts?

Man, I got nuthin. Sacrifice a chicken on the hood by the light of the midnight moon maybe. If fluid and filter are new and topped off, that's as far as autotragics and I go. I guess there must be some sorta coldweather valve that ain't doing its job but dunno...
'90 AWD Protege, full GTR drivetrain swap, ~320 whp daily driver, RIP, and
'90 AWD Protege, yet another GTR swap, Open class rallycar with a Toyota GT4 gearbox swap, thus crossing the line between hobby and mental illness. And a Brabus E55 K8, removing all doubt.

either your trans fluid isn't circulating, or maybe the linkage is acting up in the cold weather as well.

See if you can get someone to shift the car into Drive while you're under the hood looking at the shift cables above the trans.

Pump is failing in the trans or wrong fluid Having to get up to temp before it moves.. Let it warm up longer and source another trans to swap for spring

or swap to a manual transmission lol, it may seem like a TON OF WORK...but it's quite simple if you think about it...just need pedal set, clutch master/slave, shifter linkage, rear trans mount, transmission, axles and clutch/flywheel setup.

My dad is saying there are bands that can be adjusted on the outside of the trans, is this true?

Check fluid level.. If its good then you are looking at needing a rebuild... Seals have shrunk over time causing your problem... Only fix is to rebuild it..
