Then I believe you would have to reduce the reflectivity of the bottom half of the reflector in your headlight. I believe that's the part sending light upwards. It is all trial and error. I would try masking the lower part of the headlight first to see if that would reduce some of the glare.

So, you have bulbs and ballasts, but no harness? What's your stock bulb? BTW, is this for the Escort or your Protege?
It's for the escort; I do have the bolbs and ballasts and the wires that go from the ballasts to the bulbs (I think) but I don't know exactly how it hooks up, although i'm assuming it takes a 9006 input to the ballast.

Thaks for the suggestions; masking the lower part of the headlights is exactly what I'm thinking. I won't hesitate to mod the headlights or put "eyelids" all over them to make it work. I'm going to find a way to make the glare mild enough for them to be safe, and I'm not going to use them on the street if they're obviously unsafe.

I might try opening up the headlights and putting a matte finish on the bottom section, but first I'll try masking the outside. I'm confident with some effort I can get this to work.

If you do actually manage to get a good cutoff on the HID beam, even though it's a lot brighter than your highs right now, you will miss the high beam's ability to shine a long way down the road. You might consider supplementing the low HID beam with some aftermarket driving lights hooked into the stock high beam circuit, or something of that sort.

Yeah I have an idea for that, it involves fiberglass but it's top secret .

What a coincidence. I was talking to my buddy today who did a HID conversion in his Caddy. I was considering trying this in the future too. I was going to do the BMW headlight conversion and then try putting the HID's in. If you did that, you would have a 9006 bulb.

BMW headlight conversion involves a lot more than $20, though.

This is true. Probably cheaper than ESPECs though. It was just my suggestion, and how I'm going to attemp it, as it would probably work much better and be easier as well.

                Here's the deal:

Either you're gonna blind everyone around with em, or by the time you control glare enough, this light that does get out wont be very far ahead of the car.

Best: Get some driving lights. Not fog lights, driving lights. Driving lights will light down farther the road than hid headlights, they are long range lights. I picked up a set of hella driving lights for about 30 bucks.

Acceptable: Do the hid projector fog light mod, http://www.geocities.com/jvxdriver/h...conversion.htm

                Worst: Stock headlights with hids.

The projecter foglight idea is brilliant! That could be within my budget! Thanks for the idea.

Huh. What I was originally imagining would have been like one of those first couple of pictures... that cutoff line is really impressive.

Yeah, looks like that's what I'll be trying.

agreed thats a badass foglight mod.

I am going to see if I can pick up some of those Pilot foglights off of eGay at some point and try it for myself.
The T3 BP MX-3 conversion has begun, and is taking forever & will kill me.

I'm just gonna use whatever projecter foglights I can find then mount them in the stock housings. Pics will come soon.
