    Wheels

I'm looking to replace my wheels yet again on my 323. I was going to start hunting at local wrecking yards to see if there are any manufactures out there that have a 4x100 lug pattern on a black plane jane 15 to 16inch wheel. Does anyone know of a vehicle that might have this?

hi there, i'm new here and not sure what people already posted regarding OEM wheels that fit 1st generation proteges but here is a useful site that I used to look at variety of OEM wheels, then from there I look for wheels that I like.

Wheels America has been remanufacturing wheels since 1994. With over 35,000 wheels in inventory, we stock the most diverse inventory of original wheels in the United States. Our goal is to ensure our customer gets the correct wheel along with the best customer service experience.

All i know is my aftermarket 17's just amplify any problems my car has ( For example. Bad CV joints,Warped Brake rotors, Bad struts and Old wheel bearings) I am on the search for 16 in miata wheels I like the look of the larger wheels compared to the Protege lx wheels or MX-3 wheels but the protege LX wheels and MX-3 wheels give a smoother ride.
These are the ones i want.

you will need some SERIOUS fender flaring to make those fit under a protege/323/escort. I've got 15x7's, with 42mm offset, and I had to flare them. with 20 offset, that's another 3/4" you've got to have room for....

So I guess that means 15x7 38mm wouldn't fit very well either if you had trouble with 42mm?

Popular cars with wheels that should work:
                  4 lug VWs
                  nissan sentra/pulsar/NX
most honda/acura except like accords and some of the bigger cars
you want to stick with something that's 7" or narrower and +35 to +40 or so offset generally speaking

from experience, BMW wheels will be a pain in the ass. Their wheels are all hubcentric. I seached high and low and high again for a centering ring and have resorted to having a custom set made by a local machine shop out of a block of aluminum. Not fun.

I have 15x7" with a +38mm offset on my car. I didn't have to flare the fenders even with the massive sidewall 205/55's that came on the rims, just flatten the inner lip. Four door Escorts also have a flat ledge along the bottom of the door line that protrudes into the fender well, that did have to be brutally beaten with a sledge though since it would rub the sidewall on aggressive turns. Proteges don't seem to have the ledge since I checked Jho's car.

Also, the wheels in my avatar are dealer option wheels for the Suzuki Aerio, 15x6" +45mm offset and 14.2lbs each. Besides white you can find them in a dark gray/gunmetal color and sort of dull chrome color. They are hubcentric to our cars as well with the same 54.1 center bore.

The wheels in my sig are 15x7 with a 38mm or 36mm offset. Running a 205/50 tire and almost 2 degrees of negative camber (sloted strut holes), I had about a 1-2 mm clearance between the tire and the strut and about 8mm clearance between the flattened/slightly flared fenders.

It depends quite a bit on your tires, also. I may have been a bit misleading in my previous post, I apologize.

When I first got the SSR's, they had Kuhmo Ecsta Supra 712's on them, 205/50, and everything was just fine. when I put the Hoosier R3S04's on them, I couldn't actually bolt up the rim to the rear hub, since the tire itself pressed on the strut. it required 15mm spacers to get about 5mm clearance between the strut and tire in the rear I then had to roll the rear fenders out even more than they already were. The fronts, however, never had a problem.

Also keep in mind, the Escorts have the retarded flat wheel arch, the Protege has a nice round one that might eliminate the need to roll it.
