    Door unlocks when closing it?

Ok, I lock the doors on the Protege, but when I close the door, it unlocks, it seems to only way I can keep it locked is to lock it from outside witht he key. It does this on both front doors. Does anyone know if this isnormal, and if not, what do I need to do to fix it?

You hold the door handle up when you close it.

Using Linux for anything serious besides server or software dev is like using a tin can and a string for telecommunications.

Kitty is right. That or use the key. Manufacturing companies did that so dumb ppl don't lock their keys in the cars

Well, the downside with that, is my car was left unlocked a few times for like 8 hour stretches because I didn't know about it Is there a way to modify the locking mechanism so that it doesn't do that?

I dont believe anyone has found a way yet. Could always switch to power locks and gey keyless entry for lock/unlock!

I was reading some other threads saying that the wiring for power locks is already ran in the car?

It is in the 323's for sure. I'm not 100% if it is on the proteges.

Hold the handle up. It actually doesn't help you not lock your keys in the car because you get in the habit of holding the handle up when shutting the door so you do the same with or without the keys.
I live my life a quarter pounder at a time. And for those 500 calories or more, I'm free. I need FRIES! Two of them. The big ones. Oh, and I need them tonight. You're lucky the double shot of BBQ sauce didn't blow the seam on your nugget box. There she is, 2 pounds of pure beef. My dad ate it in 9.0 seconds flat. Check it out, it's like this. If I lose, winner takes my happy meal. But if I win, I take the burger and the toy. To some people, that's more important.

Presumably the Protege lockout prevention mechanism works on the same principle as the Miata's- it's a little metal rod that keeps the door from staying locked unless the handle is held open. There's a thread in Miata.net's garage section that tells you how to defeat it.

I'll probably be taking the door apart next weekend anyways to install some speakers, so i'll take a look at the locking mechanism, can't be that hard to disable.
