Well the auto belts in my protege suck, and I didn't want to source belts from Canada. So I went looking through fords and Mazdas at the junk yard, and found that 3rd gen Escort Sedan belts are very similar. The hole that the belt reel goes in is the same shape as the Protege. It just mounts different at the bottom. The solution to that is a metal plate bolted in using the holes where the lap belt bolted in. Once you have the plate made you just drill a 3rd hole in the plate to bolt the Escort belt in. If you don't want the adjustable height that is the only modification required to install them. The fixed height belts bolt right in at the top just light Canadian belts. I'm still iffy on the adjustable height. It fits one bolt hole, but you have to use a large self taping bolt on the bottom hole.
