'91 LX for $500... is it worth it?

Well, my g/f is looking for a car (cheap) and today I saw a '91 LX at a shop with "$500 CASH" written on the windshield. I obviously had to go in for a closer look.
It has factory alloys that are in pretty good shape
    sunroof (rusted)
    200,000 miles on the odo
the hood wouldn't pop for me
a little wet carpet (window was down)
a bad distributor (so I was told)
the paint is oxidized but could probably be buffed out.

It's a 5-speed, and it looks to be in decent shape, other than the above... is it worth it? The car is almost 100% rust-free other than the sunroof and around the P/S door lock.

i would buy a new disty (or 1 from a junk yard) and install it and see if the car runs b4 giving out 500 bux for a car with 200k on it...

yup.....don't trust some jackass who leaves the window open on a car he's trying to sell.

make sure the **** runs, drives, etc. otherwise it'll be a money pit.

It would make a good donor car.

I don't need a donor car, i might pull my dizzy to see if it works... is there any difference between the '91 and '92?

Yup, I went back with her a few minutes ago and got the hood open, had to have her pull the release while I beat it strategically

The distributor wasn't bolted down, the intake wasn't attached, and the valve-cover vent "S" tube is cracked (like mine). Didn't look like it would take much to fix it to "decent" shape.

take the cost they're asking, subtract the amount of money it would take to get the car to start and drive, and your end result ie, talk him down to 400 or so.. it's 500 for good reason

You could replace the sunroof with the escort glass one (or whichever car that is)

If you put your disty in their and that thing doesn't turn over.. Then walk away.
You really don't want the problems. Unless your in the mood to drop another motor in there.
Plus other things could be almost ready to go, ball joints, tie rods, bearings, axles... tranny.

Better off to pay a little more and get a little more.

BostonWrangler is selling his for a good bit more, but it's in fantastic condition compared to the $500 one. The only thing reason i'm even considering this one is cause it's really close by and it's really cheap.

Hah! I got MY 91 LX for $500, and its in quite good shape. 'Course, I got mine from a place that sells cars that have been donated to them, so they don't exactly care as much about fair market value...
