    Canadian First Gen's

    Ok the topic of which engine is in which model has been beaten to death and I think we can all agree that in Canada:

    GT = DOHC
    All else = SOHC

    Then I read this damned review of second gens and I'm all confused again:

    Basically it says that in 95-96 Mazda Canada still sold a first gen 'S' model with the first gen body style, while ES and LX models were the normal second gen body style. It also infers that this S model was 1.8L DOHC powered. I know the S model exists because I've seen em many times around town, though I'd just assumed that they were just 94's or something before now. Has anyone actually popped the hood on one of these? Is it actually the 1.8L DOHC BP? If so, it'd save me the trouble of hunting down a GT...

                Thanks for the replies. As with all CanadianDriver reviews this one too turned out to be vague and mis-leading. I'll be sure to check out an 'S' in person anyway to see what gives. ****ing Mazda Canada. 5-6 years of first gens and we get a few hundred BP's for the lot of us.

                  haha. I had a DX and you can't get more bare bones than that. If what you're saying is true then the S must be sold w/out P/S & P/B with plastic lawn chairs as seats.

                  Edit: Found this on the link posted above. It's a VIN from an S:

                  JM1BG2230S0834361

                  Are you able to confirm from this?

                            Find some Escorts GTs ... both my BPs come from those. They are much easier to come by than a real Protegé GT. Unless you want a complete Protegé GT of course.

                              That's true,
                              But ask second gen owners about how many BP's they got compared to us
