    junkyard dissapointment

so i walk up to this riced out 1989 323... pop the hood so see a TURBO manifold and dual cam motor... missing the transmissin and turbo setup. man i was pissed. next i find a white 1g protege with a single cam motor and a 4wd sticker where se/lx goes. wtf i think to myself, and i go to the back and there looked to be a transaxle. weird? also, i couldnt find an lx that had the swaybars i wanted either. oh well.

havent posted here in a while... just thought i'd share that i was a day or so away from getting a turbo motor for 125$.

So you found a rare 323 GT-X at the junkyard? What would you want with it, it's a BF chassis, you have a BG chassis, so you can't use anything from it anyway. There's a whole 323 community that would die to get parts off of it, I was one of them lol.

if you want to be hardcore, you have to go to the same junkyards every week if not more frequent. You'll be able to pull the parts before anyone else & know what their inventory is.

My yard doesn't take inventory, its just a pull-it-yourself dealie. You pay a dollar to get in and they have set prices for all kinds of parts. All fenders, whether it is off a yugo or mercedes are $30 for example. All engines, whether its a pos 1.0L 3cylinder Metro motor or a 5.0 V8 mustang motor are $150....etc.

I've seen at least 5 turbo capri's at this yard, but never a 323 GT or GT-X. Older 323's are actually rare now, the BG ones are way more common. This yard actually gets quite a bit of newer cars which is surprising. Lots of millenias as of late & 95-98 maximas, even 2001 Acura CL's (usually decimated in an accident but still have usable partS)

I use to go yarding every weekend. See, the ones in St. Louis are big on 1st and 2nd gen Proteges, 3rd and early 4th gen 626/MX-6s, and very little of anything else. There's a fair amount of BF 323s, but I've never seen a 323 LX hatch(well, I did see one last weekend, only problem was it was in the parking lot, not in the yard, heh), let alone any GT or GT-X. Miatas are also super rare, as are 3rd gen Proteges, Millenias, etc.

Some rare finds at local yards, there was a M-edition MX-6 at one, my brother got tons off of it. Years back there was a 1st gen 626 Coupe at one, and my brother found a '75 B-1600 once. Newest Mazda I've seen was a Tribute, unfortunately it was burned completely, everything was burned to the metal, the wheels were melted, it was basically a hunk of rusted metal with nothing useable.

You guys suck... there are only two yards around here that will let me past the desk, and since i've lived in Kentucky i've seen:
              1 '91 Escort LX-E
              3 MX-3's ('92 and two '95's)
              1 '88 929
              2 3rd gen Protege DX's

Catch my drift? And the one that won't let me go look around told me they had a bunch of 1st gen's but whenever I ask if one of them has a part I need they say that none of them do... but they refuse to let me go look at them!

thats so retarded, junkyards that dont let you go look for yourself... like theyve got a big list of parts for every single car out there to see if they have it or not, its so retarded

Like when I went to the j/y here in my town... LOL... I told him I needed an engine from:
                        90-94 Protege LX
                        91-95 Escort GT
                        Mazda Miata with 1.8L

The guy got out his cross reference book, and said "Well, the engines from a 90-94 Protege LX, 91-95 Escort GT and whatever the hell that is (pointed at Sephia) are a direct bolt in." I replied, "I know, I just told you that. The Miata motor will work too, but it has different internals." He then proceeded to show me a bunch of 1.9L Escort motors. I got frustrated and left.

Here there are two u-pull it yards. They both suck balls. Well they both have a large selection of pro's and escorts but nothing Ive been looking for.
Too bad I have AWD and you don't!

Don't forget the Escort LX-E, there's one at one of my local j/y's.

And the Miata BP has a different oil pan, intake & exhaust manifold, etc doesn't it?

                              correct.

weekly is probably the best to get parts as Wil said....

I havent been in a month or so, and I have been itching to go.

Oh and I love it when they tell me that the 90-94 protege LX dual cam motor is a 2.0L and all this other crazy ass crap.
The T3 BP MX-3 conversion has begun, and is taking forever & will kill me.
