    24 MPG around town

Just filled up the LX and checked the mileage. 24 mpg. Hmmm, expected better than that. Put new tires on yesterday...maybe that will help. I get 27 avg with the '91 Miata and the '01 2.0 Elantra, was hoping for the same on Pro.

I haven't done the basic tune up yet, so who knows when that was done. Air filter isn't horrible, but it probably should be replaced.

Might help if I don't drive it ...tend to use the upper rpm range routinely since that is where the fun is.

Anybody running a stock 1.8 '92 getting significantly better than this?

I get 20-30mpg with my stock 1990 GT, freshly tuned up. I'm lucky to get 20mph with my 1993 GT, both because of mods and my driving sytle.

I would say get it tuned up and get some fuel system/fuel injector cleaner (chevron brand is good) and see how it does after that. Last time I calculated my fuel mileage, I was getting nearly 30 mpg (mixed driving), same motor, my car is a little bit heavier, iirc same transmission, but I'm not 100% sure, I have the G box though.

I get 19-22 in my LX. Hurting factors are the RX-7 AFM and my "spirited" driving. Which brings up the point that I really don't care how bad my MPG is because I like performance. There's many people that come in to the dealership looking at a Legacy GT then they complain about the fuel economy. It's like "buy a freggin base model Legacy or enjoy your very fast turbo car. You can't have both!".

fuel economy has an inverse relationship with how frequently you use your right foot

Yea, I'll buy the inverse relationship between the right foot and mpg, but I don't exactly baby the Miata, or even the Elantra. 16v DOHC engines don't get happy until they are being wrung out. Frankly, that's why I like driving them. I visit the redline often, just didn't expect this much less mpg on the Pro.

As stated earlier, I'll get to work on the basic tuneup stuff and see where it goes from there.

I get about 24mpg in the city with the AC blasting... 28mpg on the highway with the AC blasting and about 31mpg on the highway without the AC

I used to get low 20s in-town in my LX, and I drive like a granny.

Wow when the escort was stock i was getting like 32-33 mpg beating the hell out of it. I think the worst i ever got was like 28 with a bad o2 sensor.

I was reading some other mpg threads which pointed to bad O2 sensors, so I have added that to my list of things to check. It does appear that 24 around town is not that unusual (course this one is not modded either.)
