    Disable hold light on dash?

My Protege use to be automatic. The owner before made it standard.
How can I disable the hold light on the dash from turning on. Without disconnecting the bulb.

When does it come on. All the time? Is it flashing?

My fix would be some black electrical tape over it.

But then again, I graduated from the Homer J. Simpson institute. :D

Is there a fuse for it?

a flashing hold light usually means an issue with your brake system
When you turn your car on... does it return the favor?

A hold flas light was for the automatic system, when you press the hold botton in the automatic shift knob the hold light goes on, its like putting a overdrive in the car.

I have the same problem, and the right thing to do it i think is to remove the bulb,I dont know other options. I remove all the dash parts to remove the bulb but when i get to remove the cluster, its not came easy out of the dash. Maybe its because his mileage wire is short, dont know...

On the joint connector behind the ECU find the harness that has 4 wires. It's the brown/yellow one, snip it.

what good does sniping the wire if the sensor the wire is attached to is not there?

Thats the signal wire to the dash to light up the hold light. If it's not connected the light can't come on.

are you still trying to fix this issue?

My friend has recently changed his 1990 323 GT Familia (as they call is over here in NZ) to Manual from Auto and he has the same annoying "HOLD" light that flashes.

I did some reseach before finding this topic and this is what ive found:
I am trying to tonight so ill let you know how it goes......

This first photo points me back a few pages in the manual to B-5 and then shows you which wire you can cut from there!

At the start I only noticed the sensor wire coming from the auto tran control unit but I dont think this is the right one... We want to cut the wire that goes to the lamp only....

                            Wish me luck! haha

yep cutting that wire worked! no more flashing!
also hooked up the reverse lights using the auto wiring harness so PM me if you are needing to hook that up.....
