today in the hot sun i accomplished:
fresh oil (10w40 valvoline) and filter (probe 2.5 v6 size purolator)
fresh sparkplugs (NKG vpower, replacing autolite platinums). the old plugs were very pale... looked like i was running very lean. which leads me to...
found a big crack in my intake hose... which was causing the horrible bucking in 1st gear, and also the lean condition indicated by the plugs. i thought the bucking was due entirely to my engine mounts being garbage, but it was due to the crack opening and closing as the engine moved, basically making it bog and rev all on its own. hooray for tape!
also did a comp test, 91 escort gt with 172k, warm with no oil added to the cyls came up at 175-180 across the board. pretty darn good. i have oil blowing out the valvecover vent though... i was told my oil rings may be shot.
then... decided to do a comp test on the BPT project car... 102k 95 EGT, pleasantly suprised @ 190-195 across the board, COLD, with no oil added!
also found a pair of 2nd gen RX7 seats for a STEAL. faded grey, but i'll re-dye them black for the project car :-D

replaced the rear sway bar endlinks for 2 reasons, shot bushings, and the escort S/W rear sway bar swap, make things a lot easier to deal with none seized bolts.
then i drove it like i stole it handles great now, the bushing kit i got from crappy tire are really stiff, which was nice to see.

I too use a V6 oil filter.
Your broken intake hose was probably the result of your worn lower engine mounts, before you filled them.
