Like Taz said, you're current cat is junk for a reason. Check into that before replacing it, or you will just ruin the new one. Check your A/F ratio.
Would an AEM EFI system be necessary? I heard those things work wonderst for evolution VIII's in the A/F area.

          Here are some sound clips.

Below is the HKS. this is actually my fav in terms of sound...

Enjoy the videos and music you love, upload original content, and share it all with friends, family, and the world on YouTube.

Here's the Blitz NUR. problem is, it's the CAT and not the muffler itself.
this is my 240 with a blitz bur spec r cat back and a megan racing test pipe

          And now here's the Apexi.

Keep in mind that the way those sound on those cars isn't necessarily the way they will sound on your car.

It all depends on what the rest of your exhaust setup is like, and wether you have a turbo or not.

yes, but after listening to several sound clips, the HKS has the deepest note. Apexi is next up but everyone has it. I've gotten advice from others telling me to go with a Tanabe Hyper medallion as well. The Blitz NUR is just way too damn loud. Plus i can fit my fist and my forearm in the damn thing.

my sleeper WILL have the turbo. my showcar which is the first one to receive the experimental treatment, will not.

I'm strictly modding it as an advertisement car for my college's auto body class and www.anime-expo.org

The only two cars i will ever buy are Mitsubishi Evolutions and Mazda Proteges.

They're the only cars that are comfortable and have owners who are polite and sensible. (hate to pick sides but a lot of xB and civic owners are dickweeds...)

scion owners suck and break thier cars constantly which then makes them my friends denis hate to disagree but how does a resonator choke the exhaust i mean a magnaflow has no baffles or anything to cause restriction therefore no chokeing.

LOL. ever since turbonetics released the 140hp gain turbo kit for the tC, everyone's been buying em like crazy.

SRT-4's and Scions are the new civics...

used more than a skank on Hollywood Blvd.

But a civic can still out handle a scion lol damn lego blocks! And yeah i'd buy a SRT-4 if i had to choose because those things are faster stock then both a scion or civic with a "kit"!

Which is what's making me lean towards the Apexi with ATS.

ATS is short for "Active Tail Silencer".

That means during regular driving, silencer is activated for streetability. But once you floor it, the silencer deactivates and opens up windmill-style vents to allow full airflow and a hella lot of noise.

I'm still stuck between Apexi and its ATS and HKS with its all-around great track record.

Well, i was forced to buy the HKS. It was $280 +tax, while Apexi N1 was $355.

How much should i expect to spend on installation plus resonator?

I work at a muffler shop here in Va. we usually charge about $100 to install a muffler and cat. btw if you plan on getting a high flow cat go with the Magnaflow "spun cat" it is designed for tight fit apps and flows very well. we install them here all of the time. one more thing get the cat with the metallic substrate not ceramic. the steel is a little more forgiving to fluctuations and rich conditions without self destructing. and on the resonator there is no restriction as long as the inlet/outlet is the same diameter as the pipe coming in or out. it is designed to reduce unwanted noise and tones. basicly it is nothing more than an inline muffler. me personaly i have hollow cat shell i slid over the pipe and welded in place. gotta love no emissions testing. but for all intensive purposes you only gain about 2 hp by doing what i did.

This is our quest; as the tail lights fade into the distance let it not be the jeers of others that say we can not do what others have, but to let the whistle of the bov the whine of our turbo and the roar of our exhaust announce to those who may say it can not be done that we will not go quietly into the night we will not bow to mainstream but rather blow by them doing mach speed laughing our asses off and giving them the one sure sign( ) so that they will understand their place in life when it comes to doubting a driven individual who owns a Mazda BG with a boosted BP

I assume the ceramic cats are usually what you get? I bought a magnaflow cat off of summit but no idea if its steel or ceramic! Anyway to tell without removing it?!

Drill a hole into it, and stick a magnet in there.
