    Electrical Problem??

I've got a 92' Mazda Pro, she's acting up a little now. Whats happening is that whenever I get in the car, everything goes fine until I either press on the brakes (before I start the car), or turn the key forward to the start position. Then the whole electrical system goes down. None of the lights, radio, or anything will work. Usually if I waited a while the electrical system would start to work again, until I pressed the brake or turned the key. I'm guessing its some short in the electrical system, but I'm not sure, so I thought I would check in and see if you guys could offer any help.

Sounds like a bad battery or loose battery connection/bad ground in general as when my battery went the gauge cluster lights lit up till i hit start at which point it tryed to draw so much power that everything went out at that moment. Good luck.

sounds like a bad battery, bad battery terminal, or a bad main ground at the body.

Hey, thanks guys, I'll check out the battery terminals/ground and battery and see if I can get it to work. However, I should say I tried jumping it, and even while the jumper cables were connected I was still having the same problem. I just had a battery go bad in my dads car, and it work for a while when we gave it a jump. So I'm guessing it may be the connections then??

Well if the battery is really dead then unless you jump it and charge it for a good while then it won't really work as i've found out before. Umm as far as the connections go maybe your terminals are just corroded up the ying yang as had happen to me before on my BF or even cracked in half and thuse not holding on tight enough to work properly. Check both of them at the battery side before searching for bad grounds, etc.

It turns out it was the connection to the battery terminals. Once I cleaned the connectors up, it ran like a charm (Mazdas always do, right ) Thanks for your help.

Yea, i have bad battery terminals, to big for the post, sometimes the + side doesn't connect. Turn key and 'click' then '****' then reseting clock and stereo setting...ugh.

              glad you found the problem.
