    Ford Ranger Vs Protege?????

i have a friend who says he will kick my ass in turns and in straight ways if we race. I really doubt his stock truck can turn at the same speed as a pro...

i beg to differ.... im not sure what motor it was, but my friend in vancouver had a kid he worked with with a late 90's ranger... he had like an air intake and exhaust on it and he wanted to race... my lxe (before the turbo, i dont think he could touch 14s let alone low 14s ) with me and my friend in it it (i was about 280lbs and my friend was a solid 180-200lbs)was a close race... he ran a mid low 16 at the track (maybe it was mid high)... and considering you have the good ol B8 under the hood i would just leave it at talk and not try to proove you point because he has a possibility of raping you and how do you deal with yourself after you get beat by a FORD minitruck?
There are no stupid questions, just stupid people.

            my 2 cents

As far as trucks go, I took a V8 F-150, and 4.3 S-10 with my 'ol B8 powered DX, so if you have a 5spd and know how to drive you shouldn't have any problems taking a Ranger on the straights. And in the twisties he should be nothing more then a memory in the rear view.

my friends blue ranger couldnt touch my stock 1994 honda civic DX (102hp) and i know my protege is wayy faster than my old civic. thats too bad you had to lose to a truck... and yea they cant handle for crap, my friend made a really bad corner and launched a fire hydrant across the 5 lane intersection!! broke his bumper right off...

s-10s are made for racing, the gearing is wrong. and a f-150? yeah, same problem. Just aren't "fast" vehicles. Rangers... depends on the year, as my buds 88 ranger was faster than my car... till about 80, then I pull away. but I'm 4wd, so you fwd people should be able to take it. But what's the point? to say you beat a truck? yeah, whatever. not even worth it.
No car! I soldz it. Now I have a truck. I like it, but apparently it has a hard time keeping up with a slightly modified 4WD protege with half the hp. Neat.

the only truck i ever rode in that was "fast" and handled "well" was my friends old s10. he had a 327 in there, with a 350 turbo trans... hauled ass. the thing was also slammed, and must have had some decent dampers or something because it handled a lot like a car.

It depends on the ranger... I used to drive a v6 S-10 and it could easily smoke a protege DX in a drag, I'd imagine a ranger with a v6 would as well.

As for handling, the DX is more capable.

this kid thinks trucks are the greatest things int he world and he has made fun of my protege multiple times. So is he is going to learn the hard way no to piss me off. All he is going to see is my taillights disappearing into the distance.

when he 1st got the truck i saw it go on two wheel trying to keep up with me. i felt bad for him and slowed down on the corners. i felt like i was back in my old mustang. taking turns at 20 instead of 35 or 40.
