    Greetings. Question about Axle swaps.

    Hello and greetings..

    Im a avid VW fan boy..and had a R32 that I wrecked...
But the first car I ever owned, was a mazda 323 Hatchback that my dad found with a blown motor.
We rebuilt it, and I drove that beast for 3 years. It went through 4 engines, and we even cut the front end off and welded a new one on from a wreck I had...
I am older now, and miss my old baby...she was easy to work on, and cheap too!

I recently came across one for 400 dollars, and all it needs is a inner tie-rod...so I am going out to pay the guy and throw it on my self.

    My question though, is this.
What axle's will swap onto the car.
I had a friend in high school taht used the protege axles on his, and it let him put bigger rims on it...
if thats the case, whats the biggest axles I can go ??
Also...any body ever heard of a all wheel drive 323?? I saw something some were and didn't know if this is the GTX 323 or not..
I am going to go ahead and spend the next few hours, searcing through the forums for any info I can...

    thanks guys.

Welcome to the forums! Cool that you owned a R32, those are awesome cars.

if you want to know who all has 4WD proteges, just click the link in my sig. That list doesn't include those who own GTX's.

as for the axle thing, the size of them won't affect what size rim you can run. That's limited by the fender and strut. If you're out searching, there are a lot of axle setups for our car, but really the most popular are stock. DX's have unequal length axles, while LX's are equal, using a half shaft behind the block. no torque steer. DX's have the B8, SOHC, LX's BP, DOHC. 2 trannies, F series and G series. The F is weaker, and the axles are non-interchangable. Kia's got a BP with a newer G series, slightly stronger case, thicker axles. Very popular for running high power, coupled with a MazdaSpeed LSD.

    ummm...that's all for now.
No car! I soldz it. Now I have a truck. I like it, but apparently it has a hard time keeping up with a slightly modified 4WD protege with half the hp. Neat.

      cool

      Okay cool!

I see you have a awd protege???

Could I mod a 323 to be awd?

I know most of the protege stuff swaps to the 323, and money isn't to much of a option for me...........I just have to tell the wife..."Yea this part is bad, can I replace it " =D

well if you'd like to do a worthwhile swap... find a protege lx or an escort GT at the junkyard and grab the entire drivetrain. engine, tranny, axles, wiring, ecu etc.... 1.8 DOHC > 1.6 SOHC
        Escort GTR -- 11.87 @ 117.6 mph -- 320 HP / 325 Ft. Lbs. @ 23 PSI
... The first FWD BG with a Toyota E153 transmission conversion in the USA!

negative on the fwd to awd swap. the chassis is different. you could make it work, but its now worth the money invested.

          everclear 190 is awesome. prime.
