    Data logging questions

Ello peeps. Just bought a new protégé, 94 lx with 102k miles. A lot of great work put into her and im looking to continue the legacy of this car (the previous owner passed away in a car accident, and I picked up the car). But Ill cut to the chase, It has a plx r300 data logger and a Apexi Safc. Im trying to figure out how to use this thing and I cant find any info on how to use the data logger software. I was wondering if anyone had experience with these things. A little off topic but its in my protégé so id though id ask haha.

I did find a basic manual for it: http://www.plxdevices.com/Installati...tion_F1.01.pdf

Even if you don't know this specific model. Can I get a basic overview on how data logging works and the numbers its putting out. I don't see Afr vs Rpm.

Did you get the data logger software with the car? you'd need to install it and make sure. section 2.5 of the manual shows that you need the CD to install the drivers for the USB link. I think that model seems to have flash memory of 80 minutes worth of logs, so if there are some files on the unit, you could try different things to look at them. It could use a simple CSV (comma separated value) text list, or it could even have something more complex.

if you can take some screenshots of what you're seeing, it would be more helpful.

I would recommend seeing if you can pull data from the logger to the PC, so you can play around with the software without making any changes on the unit itself.

    From the manual:
    3.5 Level 3: PC Upload (3-1)
This menu is used to select a data log session to upload to the PC. Here are the procedures of how upload
    sessions to the PC:
Before uploading to the PC, verify that your PLXLogger gauges display in real-time the correct information.
For example, if you have speed 1 connected to your RPM signal; make sure that the PLXLogger software
displays the correct RPM on your gauge.
Be aware: If you do not configure your gauges on the PLX Logger on the PC, your R-300 will then send
raw voltages and frequencies to the PC that may be difficult to decipher.
    The R-300 will stream data
continuously through the USB port in any state other than the PC Upload Menu (4-1 this menu).
    1. Push the down button to toggle through all the saved data logger sessions resident in the R-300s
    memory.
    2. Start the PLXLogger software on the PC.
    3. On the toolbar for the PLX Digital Dash, select File > R-Series Flash Download and click it. A blue
window should pop up prompting you to upload the data logged state. Do not upload session
until this window is opened! Failure to do so will result in data corruption!
    4. Press the left button on the R-300 to transmit the session to the PC.
    5. Upon successful transmission, PLXLogger Software will prompt you to enter the file name of the
data logger session that was just uploaded. The file can now be analyzed using the 2D and 3D
    logger on the PLXLogger software.

good luck, maybe just read through the sections a few times to get their terminology into your mind, then give it another try.

sadly the car didn't come with the software. i managed to download a version online that seems compatible, plug it into my computer and gives readouts of raw voltages like it says in the manual.correct me if in wrong but just gotta figure out what voltages belong to what sensor and try to figure out what they mean.

that sounds like what you need to do. I think that's done in the "Level 2" menu, if your software version works right.

The secondary state of this menu displays the customized labels for all the data logger inputs (3 characters) and also converts the signals into data that is easily readable. The labels and conversion values for each signal can be configured in menu (4-6). To toggle to the raw data logger input data push the left button on the R-300.

yea i figured out how to read it. Its not the best software and you need to do some math. But it gets the job done.... with some time.
